What was wrong with wimax speed?

I was getting Ann average of 8-9 mbps down and a peak of 12.

sent from the best smart phone (not phablet) available - the Galaxy S3!

Those are not very common speeds from what I've seen and experienced, I had tops 5 when I went to Orl with my Evo and my T-Mo phone was getting 6-8 and that was before they started 4G, or at least started calling it 4G.

Pair that with the fact that after about an hour of Wiimax on my phone was dead as a doornail. The real problem with Wiimax wasn't rly the speeds but the fact that they quit the rollout so now its all kinds of spotty and rly only useful to a handful of ppl right now.

Sprint sure has done some terribly stupid things, but Hesse should have got on his knees and begged and pleaded for them to just let them have an extension to use that stupid spectrum. Because WiiMax was a very expensive mistake.

I can have htc sense and beats audio because that's about as relevant as the Sega and their "blast processing" claim with the Genesis.

Lol more like oh yeah we will definately get wimax soon and when we do this phone will fly you should buy it.

Ages later still no wimax and they backpedal saying oh we shoulda gone lte our bad but at least we charged you all that $10 wimax fee until we had to change the name because we werent giving hardly anybody wimax

My phone at home never topped out over 200kbps so I said screw sprint and their empty promises

This thread is a waste of time. Every phone has haters. Even videos of cute puppies on Youtube have haters. They should just sticky one of these when creating a forum because there's already a universal law that states its inevitability. There's also a universal law that states someone will post about how this thread is a waste of time. :p

So anyway I made a post about this in android chat, but personally I really don't care if the nexus is supposed to be a development device, we need some competitive true android phones with support from Google and quick updates.

You really gotta just sit back and realize how stupid android is right now in the market. Imagine if ms showed off windows 8 but you could only get the metro ui and the windows 8 look on the surface tablets. Imagine if windows updates weren't installed on any version of windows 8 that wasn't pre installed on the surface tablet. Imagine if Dell windows 8 laptops completely looked like they were running ios because Dell had their own custom ui running on it. Imagine for a second that it was impossible to get real windows 8 on anything that wasn't built by microsoft.

Sounds ridiculous right? This is exactly what your getting from android right now. Google shows off their nexus year to year yet what you see isn't what you get.

If the nexus is truly only for developers then Google needs to quit that stuff now! Nexus phones really need to take the next step and become the Anti iphones. They need to have competitive hardware and be easy to obtain. There really isn't an excuse to not be able to get a carrier subsidized model on each carrier. The general public shouldn't be forced to use touchwiz or sense or have to make some sacrifices and take out a second mortgage to get the nexus on the play store.

If not then its time to get multiple nexus devices. If they are truly developer only reference devices then that's exactly what they need. Maybe the certification idea was a bit far fetched but partnering with several manufacturers to give everyone a chance to own raw android and quick updates is what they should do!

Again, let's sit back and realize why Android exists. Android is Google's extension into mobile. Google wants your info. They want to track you. They want to know what you're into.

They don't need the Nexus brand to achieve that goal. If you've been following the marketshare numbers, Google is already achieving this. As long as your phone uses Google services, they are already getting what they need out of Android.

No one is forced to use a TouchWiz phone. No one is forced to use a Sense phone. No one is forced to use a Blur phone.

I'm sorry but $350 for a Galaxy Nexus and $200 for a Nexus 7 is hardly breaking the bank when there are on-contract subsidized devices for over $250.

$350 is a great phone price, it's this $600 rumor that has me concerned. At $600 it's not easily obtainable.

I'll be fair in saying the galaxy nexus was the easiest to obtain, but that took several months to achieve. At launch, it was Verizon or nothing and the on contract price was pretty high iirc.

Then come January a sprint model came to light and April, $400 unlocked on the play store for tmobile or at&t.

This should of been the case at launch, but they did it get them available eventually. Who knows too, we're going off rumors at this point it might indeed be better than $600 unlocked only.

Also the 8/16 configurations baffle me. Total downgrade from previous nexuses

You know what? Nevermind! The nexus 4 is official and the pricing is awesome! All of a sudden the storage really doesn't matter

Total downgrade.. uh. :)

Don't I feel like an ass :-) yeah the prices are ridiculously stupid low. Why buy a gs3 now on contract when you can get a better phone without touchwiz and gingerbread buttons for so low and not have to sign a contract?

Awesome, good job google! Any word on a fire sale on remaining gnex inventory?

I had four iPhone 4 with AT&T that didn't work as well as my new Metro PCS LG Motion. Granted the LG Motion is a mid-tier cell phone with ICS but it's sound quailty is better than any of the four iPhone 4's. My only issue with the LG Motion is the battery life.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
4GLTE Connectivity
4GLTE Mobile Hotspot-capable
Gorilla glass
3.5 inch screen size
1.2GHz dual-core processor
5 MP camera with flash and video
3.5” HVGA touchscreen
5 GB of internal memory
32 GB of external memory
1700 mAh battery
Up to 5.4 hours of talk time
HTML
Stereo Bluetooth

Yup....It's called craigslist and eBay. :D

Yeah it would appear Samsung bought back all unsold gnexes and re manufacture them into galaxy premiers.

Oh well, at $349,it's the same price and twice the phone.

Anything under $500 is pie in the sky wishful thinking. The Galaxy Nexus had unimpressive hardware in every spec other than screen res and launched close to $600. This has the most cutting-edge chip in the platform, as much RAM as anything else, and a fancy IGZO screen. Why would it be cheaper than, say, an S3 or One X+? There's no reason to think it will be cheap other than the rumoured limited storage. And for the poster that thought $400 was expensive... Get ready to be disappointed :S

Here I am eating my words. Looking forward to reviews of this phone, it'll be HARD not to jump on it instantly at this price. Particularly since my G2 has become unreliable these past few months.

Me too. I just got too fired up over storage and the thought the price might be higher than the gnex. But don't feel bad, with specs that rival a gs3, who would of thought there would be no price difference between the 16gb gnex and 16GB n4?

I'd still prefer a 32gb but even though I got 48 combined gigs now with over 20 filled with music, I still prefer just to tap the slacker shortcut on my home screen, just easier imo

The pricing options really make complaining about storage seem stupid. You can't even get a gs2 for $350!

Can we get back to hating the Nexus 4? Have you seen those benchmarks? Makes no sense... And for all the "thermal throttling" that might be going on, that doesn't explain why the battery life is so piss poor.

Yeah hopefully the finished product has better battery life and benchmarks. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense that a phone with a skin and identical hardware would perform better and have better battery life then a phone running raw android

The battery in my opinion is gonna run along the same lines as the sgs. I do not see it getting much better. Actually until apps come out that take advantage of the quad or even dual core, those won't matter much.

I still have the hate because of the storage sizes. You don't want a sdcard that is fine, just make the storage on the phone bigger. The phone will not fail, but it is not going to be a huge success either.

One more thing, there is still gonna be a late version. I am not wavering from that. I say around February

I could see them doing it about six months from now alongside the next version of android.
