Why the hate?

Poll: Do You Dislike LG?

No one has mentioned what I believe to be the absolute worst reason to not want an LG Nexus device: T-Mobile G2x.

In the beginning everything looked excellent on paper: great hardware, decent design, the first dual-core phone, a vanilla Google experience. The problem with LG, and still is the problem now, is that they don't know how to effectively implement software on a device. The phone was (and still a bit is) plagued with software issues and LG has treated the phone like anything but a flagship device. Stock is still 2.3.4 Gingerbread and even custom ROMs like CM can only bring fully functional builds to 2.3.7.

My number one concern is that LG will bring the hardware goods, but will somehow once again fail to deliver a clean, fast, bug-free user experience.

Re:LG phones
My first flip phones were LG's...I'd say comparable to the stuff that was out at the time. Nothing to complain about. Good phone for cheap price. My first "feature" phone was an LG Chocolate touch. I liked the size, internal song storage, and f.m. radio. I remember internet access was slow at best, but the sound was decent. I also remember it to be slightly buggy....it was also one of my favorite phones....I'm sure other owners have probably had worse experiences, and others had better. Now I have a Bionic, and I have to admit that I am shocked by all the complaints people have with this phone. My Bionic has been nothing but awesome! I've never had a single problem at ALL. Maybe I'm just lucky.
I guess my point is, you could have the latest-greatest most expensive feature laden phone, and it could still turn out to be a brick. happens. If you find something that works for you, who gives a rats ass about who hates it? =D

I voted no opinion. The LG Optimus S (?) was my first android phone and although I did have to send it in to get replaced a couple times (don't remember the reasons) I liked the phone and it was good for a free entry level/budget phone.

I personally have only heard bad things about LG. I think it's a bad idea to make a tablet from a brand lots of people already hate. That will only make people on the fence about switching to Android more resistant to doing so. Plus it will give them bad press which will result in the iSheep coming out and saying things like how bad Android and their products are. We need to get behind a product we can rely on. That's why I think ASUS was a good first choice for the Nexus 7. I think their next one should be a Samsung tablet. Everyone loves the Galaxy S3, but what if there was a pure Google version. That would be amazing, plus we can trust in quality of product that Samsung makes. I'm not sure the same can be said by LG. If LG makes the next Nexus I will probably just go with the next ASUS Transformer instead.

I've been using my T-Mobile G2X since May of 2011 and while the hardware is pretty good, I'm still stuck on Gingerbread because LG refuses to open source their Tegra 2 video drivers and reneged on their promise to release ICS for the G2X and the European version LG 2X. It was one of the first crop of dual core processor phones and shipped with nearly vanilla Gingerbread. I was fooled into believing it would be similar to a Nexus device because of the nearly plain vanilla build. This was before Cyanogen started working for Samsung and when I heard he was buying the G2X for himself and would be developing for the G2X I was sold. I learned the hard way that open source is a relative concept. If the drivers are not open source, the developers are severely limited in what they can do. I spent three months trying every different ICS build for the G2X and while I loved the benefits of ICS there were just so many things that didn't work the way they were supposed to. I had a chance to borrow my son's G2X for a while after he got a Galaxy Nexus and for the hell of it tried Hellfire's Gingerbread build. I was shocked how much I had given up for the sake of ICS and switched my daily driver back to Gingerbread. I swore I wouldn't go back to ICS until the drivers became available. Sadly, LG backed out of their commitment to releasing ICS for the G2X and developement on XDA and Open Kang for the G2X has slowed to a crawl. At this point, if LG is the only Nexus phone manufacturer I will get a Galaxy Note II and put CM10 on it. It may not be a Nexus but I am very confident it will have a very robust development community and the hardware it cutting edge. Rumor has it that it has the LTE radios for T-Mobile's LTE network when it launches in 2013 so it will be future proof as much as one can hope for.

I dont hate LG really. Im sure Optimus G is a really nice phone and everything, but ill just wait for Samsung or HTC to do it better. its kinda always been that way

Why are there two no opinions?

I voted the first no opinion and heard bad things but honestly I really like the design of the leaked pics and the thought of a top-of-the-line processor. Oh and of course 2GB of RAM. I'm gonna be bummed if battery life hasn't improved substantially over the Galaxy Nexus, the camera still sucks, it doesn't come with at least 32GB of storage as an option, and it doesn't come to Verizon. If those expectations are all met + quad core S4 + 2GB RAM + the leaked design or something better, I'm snatching one up the second I get the chance.

I have no problem with LG. I DO have a problem with 8GB of non-expandable memory and a lack of LTE.

I've had an LG Optimus S for the nearly 2 years and it has been a rock solid device. I never had a single issue. Its never been in a case and fallen out of my pocket a lot and has kept on working flawlessly.

I'm due for an upgrade and was on course to get a galaxy S3 but I may have to wait now and see what the LG nexus will be like.

The 16GB S3 is $199 from Sprint with a card slot. If the LG nexus is the same price for 8GB and no slot, then I'll be tempted to stick with the S3. $199 for a 16 GB would make me give it serious consideration.

I'd rather have an LG phone than a Samsung phone. I'm actually kinda glad the rumors are pointing towards LG, keeps things interesting. Sony deserves a shot as well, eventually.

I have had LG phones before and had no problems with them. But I do not want a Smart phone with only 8 GBs of storage. I do not care how good the other specs might be.

Though I rather like their hardware, LG are not a developer friendly company. Their last flagship, the 4x HD was a good phone but came with a locked bootloader and no way to unlock it. Of course, the nexus will be unlockable, but it still makes me dislike LG.

I'm more concerned about 16GB being the largest size. I can live w/o expandable memory if it has 32GB on-board... 16GB is just pathetic.

I'm still holding out a vain hope that there'll be more than 1 nexus phone released... Mid-range 4.3" Xperia Nexus would be leet!

Personally I think this Nexus will be amazing. No one liked the Nexus S or the Nexus One when they first came out. I just like how it looks as of now. That's as official for now until someone who is either Google or LG tells us what this thing runs on.

I don't hate any oem but I do prefer one over the other. I never been fan of most manufactures and especially LG specifically for look of devices and I could say the same for most all of the other oem. HTC overall is favorite oem design wise but Sony and Samsung have come around these couple years for me. With the recent unveiling of their Optimus G line and looking at press shots and initial demos that for me LG has gain my praise. The LG current direction looks promising and what I seen of leak LG Nexus I definitely will give it look over in the store. I really don't care "BLANK" in front of Nexus just that it is a Nexus which backed by Google. In end my hands on impression will determine if I want Nexus A built by company A or Nexus B by built by company B not fact what history or past experiences I have had or heard about the oem.

It's more accurate to say < 8GB available to the user because the OS is going to take up at least 3.5-4.0GB. I'm looking to go "pure Android" for the first time but if the nonexpandable < 8GB is final and the only option (which I highly doubt and hope Google's on the same wavelength there), that'll be the end of that. I'd really like to root on a stock Android device. As the owner of an EVO 4G, which only has ~380MB internal available to the user, the only reason why I didn't ditch it was because of the microSD card slot. LTE is cool but not a biggy since I download mostly from Wi-Fi anyway. I don't even really care if the battery's removable/nonremovable as long as its capacity is decent. And I don't care care about 'no microSD card slot' if the internal storage is sufficient, which in my opinion should be a minimum of 32GB these days. I can't wait to see the final specs and if other manufacturers will make other Nexus devices as rumored. But being on Sprint, I'll more than likely have to wait until around Q2 2013 before a CDMA Nexus 2 device comes my way... >=0( Other than that, I have no problem with LG. In fact, I had the LG Rumor slider a few years ago, thought it was an excellent phone, and loved it so much I kept it for 3 years.

Because G2X.

Some people say they "took a while" to fix problems. That's not entirely accurate. They NEVER fixed the problems.

The GPS still takes several minutes to lock, if it ever does. It drops signal switching from 4g to 2g, so you have to set 2g only if you don't want to lose signal. It overheats while charging, which some phones can handle, but others can't. Regardless of if you have 2.2, 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, it has numerous software issues. It lags constantly forcing reboots, after which it will work OK for a little while and start lagging hard again. If you decide to root and install CM7, you can expect things like random reboots, disappearing APN settings, etc because the kernel source LG released was completely broken and had to be hacked severely just to work. CM9 is broken because LG constantly lied and said there would be ICS for the *g2x* and then finally said they meant the *o2x* instead, but even that hasn't materialized yet.

Anyone who claims they've never had a problem with their g2x is either 1) lying, 2) never uses their phone, 3) doesn't actually own a g2x or 4) the luckiest mother on earth.

Yes, there hardware is hefty and durable. That's about all you can say about it. This wasn't supposed to be their low-end designed to fail device. This was their frickin flagship, or so they claimed at the time. Would LG's failures be remedied by having Google do the software? Maybe. But after they put out this kind of crap, and expected people to be happy with half-baked updates that created as many problems as they fixed, there's no way I'll buy another LG.

edit: Oh, and this wasn't my first Android device, so I have quite a bit of context. I previously owned a G1, MyTouch 3G, Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and then the G2X. While the G1 and MT3G were slow, they were products of their day. The G2X was never a good phone. I still kick myself daily for not getting the Sensation instead.

Go back and search every Nexus related thread going back to the Nexus One and you'll find complaints about everything. Its the opposite of iSheep who praise everything about the latest iPhone.

As far as the 8gb storage rumor I'd be shocked considering Google seems to be increasing storage as demonstrated by them dropping the 16 GB Nexus 7 for a 32 GB model at the same price.

This poll is ridiculous... two different selections for "No Opinion" and there's only one selection to reflect a positive outlook on LG - and your only option is "Love Em"??

How about a selection like "I don't mind LG, but I'm not an apologist either" or something to that matter?

I have decent experiences with LG but I don't fall into any of your selections. I didn't like their LG Nexus when all we thought was that it was a brick. They've redesigned that, and I may be on board as long as it's not crippled with tiny internal storage.

Hey being previous os user I will stand with you, that phone was a brick(dropped countless times Without case, screen never cracked), and the two communities that I think have the best devs on ac are the os, and ov.
