Why the Late Announcement?

Did they not announce the M9 and release it shortly thereafter? I had the phone in my hand April 15th last year. They are now taking longer to announce the phone, ie. April 12, so hopefully they are taking the extra time to do it right this time software wise and even if it doesn't get to carriers until the end of April this time it is still ok. I was actually questioning LG's decision in my post. It seems like a waste to announce the phone the same time as the S7 and and take what seems like a long time to then release it. At this point, it will be released closer to when HTC releases their phone than Samsung.

No No No, don't take me like that "other" guy. ;-)

I have no understanding for the late announcement (of either; but honestly I am a scrub and have only been watching Sammy and HTC as LG has no interest to me). I want to say last year it was early March? Or am I just making it up? LG is offering up a new system and maybe all the parts and pieces aren't all specifically in place (a nod to the interchangeable ecosystem)?

I am hoping HTC is doing it all right with understanding to mistakes made last year. They just can't afford a rehash. But I am looking for an upgrade to my DNA. *fingers crossed*

haha. It's all good. I actually have zero interest in the S7 or G5 at this point. I need something that is going to be updated timely. So it is basically down to the HTC or Nexus. Actually, if I wait long enough I could end up with both all in one this Fall! Not sure I can wait that long though.

The camera has the potential to be promising. Good hardware + an improvement on the A9's software = profit

Don't even get me dreaming about an HTC nexus phone.....man that could be epic!

I just looked this up and it was the M8 that was released the same day as the announcement. It was announce March 25th, 2014 and Verizon sold it that same day as an exclusive. The rest of the North American carriers begin selling it a few weeks later in mid April. So HTC has done this early turnaround before. It is even more feasible this year since they aren't announcing it until the 12th of April so that gives them more time.

My guess is that if they had announced the HTC 10 during MWC alongside the LG G5 and the Galaxy S7/S7E, it would probably get drowned out in media coverage by the other two phones. Samsung and LG have much, MUCH deeper pockets than HTC do and will advertise the bananas out of their phones - something that HTC simply cannot compete with in their current financial position.

I think it's probably better off for HTC to wait for the media storm to die down from the S7/G5, then try to muster up some noise about their phone.

Could they have 'lost' sales due to people picking up an S7 or G5? Sure. But would they have gained sales directly competing against them in the same timeframe? I guess HTC didn't think so, and are avoiding that situation.

This is EXACTLY why and it makes perfect sense because HTC can't fight the samsung/LG media frenzy. But now all attention is on them. It was very smart of them.

If they believe they have a great phone, a competitive phone then there is no reason why they could not release the details at the same time as Sammy and LG. Most people like choices and to evaluate what is coming down the line soon. I already bought the SG7e and I loved my HTC One M8. So, they have potentially lost a customer (only one I know :)) and now it will have to be something amazing to tear me away from the SG7e.

So, why did they not release details at the same time? They realise their phone is just not up to snuff compared to the other 2? They just weren't ready or have all the details, which would be hard to believe?

I feel most people want what they want NOW. So if they released just info like LG did when the S7 was released, people wouldve still bought the S7 because it was available already. Impatience is human nature.

Release date is in May? I think the gap between announcement and release is too long.
