Why was the ability to share photos from the web removed? On Gingerbread, I was able to longpress on a photo then share via sms/mms and Facebook. Now I can only save or set as wallpaper. This is really annoying. This appears to be the case on every ICS device I have handled. I have downloaded several browsers. None of which can share directly from the web. Boat browser appeared as though it could however stored the image in a folder on the sim card. Therefore still causing me to have to go back and delete photos.

Is there a way to share photos directly from the web that I am not seeing? Will Jellybean be able to do this?

Not sure what phone you have.

But when I'm looking at a photo in the Facebook app, I can press the menu key to bring up a menu. Share is one of my options. I can hit Share and the list of apps, like Text Messaging, appear.

In the browser, can you long press a photo and select view? If so, that should open the photo by itself. From there you should be able to Share via the menu key.

Thanks for the reply. I have an Evo 3d. In Facebook it only allows me share with everything but Txt. On the web, it will let me save, set as wall paper or view image. When I view image it only allows me to share page, not share pic. I'm pretty sure if you check your phone, you will see that you can not do this like before on Gingerbread. This is extremely annoying as being able to quickly fire off funny photos is a part of my daily routine. This inability to do this is making me consider other OS's.

They need to fix this.

I can on my phone in Facebook, Bionic with ICS.

I'm glad that it works for you. Can you share photos from the web?

I can't. I can't really comment on doing this in Gingerbread since I don't think I ever did that. If I wanted to Share something from Facebook, it was always through the app and not the mobile site.

Stock browser on ICS (and Chrome) don't seem to have this feature.

Although I share photos from Facebook from time to time, I mostly shared from the web via TXT. Unfortunately the FB app for my phone does not allow this option like your's does. I updated to the most recent version with no luck.

My frustration is that the Android developers are not talking about this now missing feature. I wonder if it has anything to do with apple lawsuits, being too close to an iPhone feature. Regardless, if this is not fixed on jellybean, I will most likely migrate to back to an iPhone to regain this simple but used often feature.

That is not browser that is broken.... but SMS/MMS app. In Android shearing works in inverted way, applications say what they can do in there manifest, the application that want to shere, send request... and the rest is done system (but application can take over handling of that by precising request), it search for app that support requested action, if there more then 1 then system as which one to use (as in screen shot in post above). So not app that have data need to support service, but service need to support shereing of that data, that allows to add support services that app does not intented to support, that beauty of Android Intent system.

So problem is your SMS/MSS app doesn't manifest that it can shere photos or use outdated action ID, so solution is to install other app or get GB apk of SMS app or if manifest is really broken and youhave rooted phone you could try to add manifest (thru you would need to figure which activity class to call)

The Text Message app does support sharing in the browser but as a link.

I think dballn247 wants the photo attached as an MMS rather than being sent out as a link.

But a broken manifest or text app would explain why he couldn't share from the Facebook app.

Exactly. I would like to be able to share from the web via Texting. I was just explaining that I also was not able to share from my FB also although Ry appears to have this capability.2012-10-29_13-25-52.png
