why will my galaxy watch not work away from my phone.

When my watch disconnects from my phone ( Bluetooth range) i cannot receive any calls or notifications etc. i thought this was part of the watch, that you could send an receive calls/texts whilst out on a walk without your phone with you?

Does the watch have cellular data? If not - it won't work without the phone, how would it get the signal?

yes but i was told once it linked up to my phone, it would also work away fro it. using its own data basically. there is no option for me to tutn on molibe data on the watch. only wifi/blutooth. is this a fault or is there an easy fix to be able to connect to data. when this was purchased they boasted it runs way from your phone, once it has been connected to your phones data but it wont work even if i walk out of range of my phone but still have internet whilst in my house.

No, the watch needs its own SIM card. Some carriers will give you a second one for your watch for free, others force you to get a sepearat account for your watch. (And you have to remember to set the phone to forward all calls to the watch. About the only way to avoid that is for you to manually move the SIM from the phone to the watch, so you keep the same number.)

no it's not a fault of the watch. BT requires the phone and watch to be connected to receive/make calls, just like any other BT device.

If your watch and phone are on the same WiFi network, it should still work as you intend. You can't leave your phone home and run to the store and have watch stay connected

Basically you misunderstood. It would work away from the phone as long as they are sharing a signal together. Bluetooth and WiFi allows it to work as far as your WiFi signal allows you to be. You can be in the in the kitchen making coffee and your phone upstairs in your room and you will get your notifications. You can't go jogging and leave your phone.
This can be explained easily by logic. If the watch has no connection to the phone, how will the phone send notifications to it? If you turn off watch bluetooth and wifi, even when they're next to each other, the watch won't receive notifications. Why would you expect differently when there is no connection to begin with because you're too far away from the phone?

One other thing is that, if the WiFi is set to "Auto" on the watch, it may not switch on the WiFi immediately when Bluetooth is disconnected. It might eventually turn on the WiFi and connect to the phone through WiFi in the house if it's disconnected long enough. But it does if I start using the watch while BT is disconnected. So now I have turn the WiFi to Always ON and connected, and it would quickly connected remotely through WiFi when BT is disconnected.

It sounds like you just have the WiFi / Bluetooth model instead of the LTE version. Even with the LTE version though, you'd need it to be set up with a carrier to allow data services.

Devhux is correct. There are two versions of this watch. A Bluetooth version and an LTE version. You need the LTE version to be able to leave your phone at home and still be able to use it in regards to making and receiving calls and texts. With the Bluetooth version, as soon as you are far enough to drop the Bluetooth connection, you lose any ability to make or receive calls.

I was just in hospital for a few days and my 46mm BT watch was at home on the charger, I kept getting a remote connection to Galaxy Watch message on the phone when I connected to the hospitals WiFi, not sure how that part works and what functionality is available remotely

Sounds like you had that WiFi hotspot saved on the phone (which gets transferred to the watch. You'll be able to deal with notifications just fine when remotely connected, but calling won't work.

Edit - I misread your message, but the idea is they same. Your watch would have been connected to your home Wi-Fi as that one is saved on the phone.

Also, hope you're doing better now.

Yes watch was connected at home, I must test on day leaving the phone at home instead and see what works on the watch when connected to Wi-Fi somewhere else.
For calls to be working remotely im sure you need the lte version

Away from my phone without Bluetooth I can send and recieve text and data.
But cannot recieve or send voice calls.

I must connect to phones Bluetooth and then Galaxy watch automatically picks it up and then I can send and make phone calls, only by connecting to Bluetooth mode.
Sprint is working on update to this.

I was going to return watch, now I fell in love with the damn thing and my wife brought it so, it is what it is.

Just remember Bluetooth mode your phone and watch has to be in the same mode.

Your watch will do mostly everything your phone can in Bluetooth mode as far as talking and texting, and a host of others.

Without being connected to Bluetooth mode. Experiment with watch because it's does do some things on its own.
Sprint is different though, I had to add in unlimited data plan to use texting features without phone with me.

That's ridiculous. Your LTE watch is effectively a Bluetooth model (well, almost). Sprint by name, clearly not by nature.

I was told the same thing -that i could leave my phone at home and use the watch as a stand-alone. I am paying for a $10 data plan for the watch so it should work. when i walk more than 30 feet away from my phone it disconnects from Bluetooth and says that mobile data will be used instead, but when i go to make a call, it asks me if i want to connect to Bluetooth and that is the only option.

When i look at the settings screen and i'm away from my phone, it does say "Standalone-Sprint" on the bottom.

I wonder what the heck the deal is!
