Why won't my calendar notifications work?

I am having a problem in which, despite making entries in Calendar and selecting a time to be notified before the date/time of the entries, the phone never notifies me. I have the other settings like Sound and App Notifications set correctly, I never get notified. I also have Do Not Disturb turned off. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I could be missing? Thanks

Did you change any battery saving settings for Calendar? Is it allowed to run in the background? Is it battery optimized? I would start there because if app is put to sleep it may not wake up for the event. I myself use Reminder for alarms. FYI, you can enable Reminder events to show in Calendar.

Thanks for that. I've made the necessary changes in Reminder and hopefully things will work out now.
