Why won't my contacts show?

When I go on my contacts or call log on my galaxy s4 it just says contacts list is being updated. This has been the case for a couple of days now. Can anyone help please?

Boot into recovery (power device off. Hold volume down + Power + Home)
Using Vol down, navigate to wipe system cache and use power to choose the highlight option.
