Why won't my Galaxy S4 send emojis?

So my emojis have been sending until today. I just downloaded an update today. Usually, it converts emojis into a MMS message. Now, it says change the input mode to automatic. I've already done this 3 times! Any idea on how I can get my phone back to sending them as MMS messages?

I'm having the same issue. Is it the android 4.4.2 update? My emojis used to convert to mms but now they don't and in turn they do not work. I can send them to other Verizon android users but not other carriers.
