my htc mini 2 wont connect to certain wifi routers

trying to connect to wifi at work, had it no problem on old htc but this new one wont connect, when i look at advanced settings there is no ip address, i know this is not a problem with the router as my friend connected straight away , phone is also not sending text messages sometimes or takes hours or days to send

Re: my htc mini 2 wont connect to certain wifi routers

G'day.
In my experience different implementations of Wi-Fi security can cause this.
I had Linksys Router and Samsung phone that would not connect if the WiFi security and Phone security were not set to the same settings.
WPA2 on the Phone and WPA2 on the router. I believe they are supposed to negotiate until they get an agreement but in this case they did not seem to.
They just had to be the same.
So I guess my question is are both devices set to the same the security setting WEP, WPA or WPA2 and encryption protocol TKIP or AES.
Unless your phone is a corporate phone and you have been specifically asked to set security settings to the Enterprise version of these settings, don't use them, use the personal versions of WPA or WPA2.
To remove security settings as a problem, temporarily set the Wi-Fi security of both devices to "No Security" or "Open", If you get a connection Security settings are your problem, if still no connection, at least you have eliminated Security settings as your problem.
I once forgot I'd set "MAC Address Filtering" on my router. Tried a new device, no joy. Checked the router config and remembered I set MAC address Filtering. Added the new MAC address; all worked. The MAC address of your new phone will be different to your old phone. Unless the address of the new phone is included in the router, the router will ignore the request for an IP address.
Similarly, there was version of IOS that I couldn't get to work at all with MAC address Filtering, despite the fact that Android devices worked.
Try disabling MAC address filtering (if you have it enabled).
Has the router run out of IP addresses to issue from DHCP ? If the router has been set to offer IP address leases without a time limit, the router saves an IP address for use with every device that you've ever connected to the router since the last time you turned the router off. If you connect lots of different devices to the network, eventually it could use all the IP addresses available to it.
I'll keep thinking, there's bound to be something else.
Let me know how you go.
