It may be worth trying a different USB lead, but the USB connector may be damaged or dirty, among other possibilities.

Flashing red LED indicates battery is low voltage and dead. Its in the process of trying to bump the battery to bring it up to normal charging which would be solid red. So if its flashing give it a while, like 10 to 15 minutes.

Mine flashed due to a bad USB port (in two M8's no less). Basically the phone couldn't get the right input current and/or voltage. If I left it a while flashing, it would sometimes go solid red. Eventually it gets so bad that it won't detect the cable at all. This is after going through the usual process of elimination by trying different and new chargers/cables.
