HTC One M8 will not charge

I went to sleep with my phone charging last night and when i woke up it only had 4% battery life, with the charging symbol still displayed on the phone. It shut down soon after, and now takes up to 20 minutes to get up to 1%, after this, it goes back down to 0% and shuts down again. The Charging LED flashes on and off every couple of seconds or so. I have tried all of the manual reset options (Power Button + Volume up, Power Button + Volume Down, and Power button + Volume up and down) as well as multiple chargers, but the problem still persists. This is the first time anything like this has happened and there has been no significant damage or water damage to the phone.

My HTC M8 is doing the exact same thing, began around 8/25/15. I'm thinking it has to be software issue as my phone is in perfect shape.

Re: HTC One M8 will not charge

I saw that you tried multiple chargers, but did you also try a new USB cable? That's the most common issue. If you've tried that with no luck, then it's likely a hardware problem on the phone itself. The battery may be bad, but I'd suspect the USB port itself. Mine went bad on me, did the warranty roulette thing for it and now my replacement is going bad too. I'm getting the same symptoms as you with all my cables, and the plugs can wiggle a fair bit in the phone's port. It's actually to the point that the charging indicators go off while plugged in if it's at the right angle.

I'm beginning to suspect it's a bad port design. The first one I can be ok with being a simple defect. The second one, who knows. Since it's a certified used phone, that port could have been abused before it was sent in by the first owner and not replaced. I know the battery has been abused, so pretty soon I'm going to a local shop to just have them replace both the port and battery since it's out of warranty.
