LG G2 Wi-Fi won't turn on

Ok so I recently upgraded from a LG G2 to a G4, because my G2 was bricked. But I was hoping to still use the G2 for music and games so on road trips I don't need to waste battery on my G4. But the wi-fi won't work on my G2.

My G2 had the problem of just randomly restarting, sitting on a table or going on snapchat, you name it. But one day it had a really bad loop. It would turn on, and off, and on, and off for about 10 minutes, and then finally it stopped, but when I went on the phone the wi-fi stopped working. Not just for a router, but it wouldn't turn on. The wi-fi logo on the notification bar keeps flashing but it won't turn on and when I go to settings, it just says "wi-fi turning on.." I've already factory reset it. Can anyone please help!! PLEASE!!

Re: LG G2 Wi-Fi won't turn on

Please flash a custom ROM. If you have one, and want to keep it, flash it as if you were just getting it. Obviously, a mere factory reset won't work. I'm amazed the thing even works at all ( . )( . )
If that doesn't work, you might've broke your kernel. If so, you should get a custom kernel.

Thanks a lot! By a custom ROM is that a CM or just another android version. Or either of them.
And what does a kernel mean?
Another thing I realized if it helps, is that when I go into advanced settings in my wifi settings, the MAC address is unavailable.

OK so I installed cyanogenmod on my phone, which is great, but the wifi still doesn't work. Which leads me to believe that it is a hardware problem.. but the thing is I was just holding my phone, wifi working fine, it reboots, and suddenly the wifi is gone. There was nothing that happened physically to the device so I'm a little confused. Any other ideas? Thanks

Did you get a new account? Is it just the wi-fi, or does your phone still have all those other issues? You may need to reprogram the MAC address marked on the chip, which may involve opening the device. If this is what's needed, it will be easier than flashing a new kernel. Otherwise, it is a kernel issue. A kernel allows the OS and apps to communicate with the hardware. For more info, click here. This is a related Wikipedia article. If this is a kernel issue, you will need to flash a custom kernel. I do not know much about custom kernels, but make sure to get a well known and respected one. A bad or improperly installed kernel will brick your device, and may damage the recovery.

I recommend the custom kernel method if you can't open your device. If you can open your device, the reprogramming method may be easier. You may possibly need to do both.
WARNING: THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE IF DONE IMPROPERLY. DO NOT FORCE THE DEVICE OPEN, AS YOU RISK HARDWARE DAMAGE. DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE, HEAT, OR PRESSURE TO THE BATTERY, AND DO NOT PUNCTURE IT, AS THE BATTERY MAY EXPLODE OR IGNITE, DESTROYING THE PHONE AND/OR INJURING YOU.
If you need help or couldn't do something, you should post again. If you successfully did both, and the wi-fi still doesn't work, your wi-fi chip (not the phone, just this one chip) may have been confused, bricked, or damaged. In this case, you will likely need to reset, flash, or replace the chip. If you are on the chip level, this may need a different skillset.

Thanks for replying!

So how do I flash a kernel? Is is the same way as flashing a ROM? And also, would I need to maybe replace the battery? Because when I opened the phone I saw that the battery had some dents in it, but I think it was there before? Thanks!

Hello again,
Flashing a kernel is not the same as flashing a ROM. I recommend getting a well known flash tool (other than ROM manager) that supports kernels. I have Rashr. You can do this using your phone or PC. I do not know how to do this with a PC, as I do not own one. Sometimes, these "dents" are normal, but sometimes they are not. Look at this picture of the battery my drone uses.

I am using a drone battery because I do not have a phone battery ready. These 2 batteries are VERY similar.
I recommend postinng a picture of your LG G2 battery so people who have more experience with batteries can take a look.

Hey! So my phone went through a boot loop multiple times and then I just left it alone to do its thing. (It got REEEAAALLLYYY hot). This morning I charged it to full, turned it on, and the Wi-fi started working! and then 5 minutes later it turned off... and then it turned on again! WHATTTT??? is it still hardware problem? because it works now. crossing fingers it doesn't turn off again.

It sounds like a loose chip. Even a broken kernel shouldn't be doing that. I think that, if it is a loose chip, pressing in some areas will either cause or stop the issue. I have this ocassionally on my tab 2, except with the GPU.

Is there any way to fix it so that the wifi stays on? It's been going on and off for a while now.

It seems like the chip might have been confused by wierd signals from the CPU when the phone was bricked. Now that it is working, this shouldn't be a problem anymore.

It keeps turning on and off, and stays off more than on. Whenever I reboot my phone the Mac-address disappears, until it turns on for the first time after the reboot.. Do you have any guides or anything on how to fix the loose chip you mentioned? Or if it is a software problem how I can fix the weird signal?
