Why won't my Moto X Play connect to WIFI router??

[AC Question]

I've tried everything I can think of, but I'm no techie expert! I'm spending all my time trying to sort this problem rather than playing with the phone! Not sure if it's the phone or the router? It saves the router but won't even get the IP address when I try and connect. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

To isolate the problem, first take it to a place where there's free wifi and see if it connects. If it does, the phone is working (and it's probably something in the way the router is set up).
