Why won't my photos load completely onto computer to be downloaded?

I'm trying to download my photos to my computer to transfer them onto a USB flash drive to free up space on my phone (galaxy note 4) It'll load only a few and then freeze up. I've done it before and didn't have trouble so idk why I am now. I have it connected as a media device as well and still no luck. I even restarted my computer and it still won't load all my photos. Is it my phone or computer that's causing the problem?? Help!

MTP support in Windows 7/8/8.1/10 is poor as hell. Freezes randomly. A workaround that I found was to use an FTP server on the Phone like 'My FTP Server' on Playstore, set it up, connect phone to Wifi and then in Windows with Filezilla connect to that server in the same Network and download everything.

Is faster and doesn't require cables at all. Then when finished, just delete the backed up photos if you want
