Why wont my samsung earbuds use the mic when i plug into galaxy s3

My Samsung galaxy s3 wont use the microphone when i plug in the earbuds that came with it ive tried a bunch of differnt headphones and i even tried them on my computer and they work fine i can hear everything the buttons work its just the issue with the microphone the cord has been crunched a couple of times by a wheel and has been biten a few times but the cord shows no damage so might it be just the wires? if so why doesnt any other earbuds work so i think its a issue with the phone

Have you tried turning it on? Clicking/tapping it? If that doesnt work, test your earbuds and see if they work aswell.

Welcome to Android Central! Check the phone's headphone jack as well. Use a can of compressed air to blow it out, or a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts.
