Why would anyone buy the Galaxy Mega with the Note 3 on the horizon?

Besides saving $100-$150 with an upgrade?

I just don't why someone would be willing to sacrifice 2013-2014 technology (N3) for 2011 technology just to gain 0.6 inches

I read that the Mega is for older folks. Some of them may not mind having 2011 tech vs 2013 tech. Maybe?

Frankly I feel the mega is nothing more than experiment on Samsung part. They want to know just how large of a device will sell, and I would bet 7 out of 10 customers don't even know what you specs mean, or care. Not a bad idea Samsung.

In Europe the price difference is ~250 euros. If you don't need a pen and want a big display, that's reason enough.

Actually, I take back my original assumption.

I took the plunge and bought the Mega knowing that I can return within 14 days and you know what? It is pretty awesome.

This proves that after a certain threshold, specs are essentially indistinguishable in day-to-day usage.

The extra screen real estate (even compared to a Note 2) really is a pleasure.

I love the variety that Samsung offers. They really do make a phone for everyone.

Now that you're using the Mega do you think anything could get you back to a smaller phone like the S4 or the Moto X?

Screen surface area is a lot bigger. The LCD is also super bright and easy to see outdoors.

Not sure yet. Definitely getting spoiled w 6.3 inches. Biggest trade off with S4 so far is inability for one-handed use. Still can manage some one handed use, though. Otherwise, pretty similar experiences with a much larger screen. Surprisingly.

Does the Note 3 have an IR blaster? That would be a nice feature to have, which the Mega does have. I have the Mega on my list despite the older technology. It may be good enough for me, and the $250 savings is nice. I'm not eligible for an upgrade and would have to buy off contract.

Yes, off contract, it is a pretty good savings. After using the Mega for a few days now, it feels just like a larger s4.

I had a note 1 and it was a terrible experience I like what I see with the Note 3, but simply I like the size of the Mega as I watch a lot of videos when on the go I do however miss ths S-Pen and wish the mega had one.

I actually now have both the Mega and the Note 3.

1. I like the size
2. Due to the Mega's lower resolution more Play Store apps are compatible with it as a lot of developers have yet to upgrade their apps for higher-res screens.
3. It costs less than the Note 3

Really like mine for many of the reasons stated above and love it even more since I found that it supports HD comics. ;)

That would pretty much be me, lol. Half blind and don't really care about specs as long as it performs reasonably well (which it certainly does).

I bought a Mega on Sunday (due to the lower resolution it can handle some apps higher res devices cannot) but found its weaker specs really showed up in my usage so I took it back and got a Note 2.

Why not the Note 3?
