Why would the screen on my Zenfone V slowly degrade to where I can see nothing in the light?

I bought a Zenfone about the first of the month. Nearly a week later, I noticed a small amount of purple colored runs in the upper corner of the display. It slowly expanded into and down the screen. NOW, in the daylight, the screen looks completely black and you can barely make out anything on the display. In the dark, things are more visible, but very faded. the color scheme of the phone make it impossible to see things even in the dark.
