Because they couldn't find the droid they were looking for.

Jokes aside hopefully someone can help me find the one I am looking for. I want to get an upgrade for my wife. She has an LG g3(cdma) for 3 years or so. It has worked like a charm, still in perfect condition although she has told me lately that it seems more sluggish and battery draining more quickly.

She primarily uses her phone to take pictures and listen to music with the occasional game.

I've considered the Google Pixel XL(hear it has a great camera) the LG G6, the HTC 10.

Can someone who has these phones or who has used these phones give me some input on these devices. Speaker quality, battery life, etc?

Suggestion for other devices? Devices without headphone jack are meh.

Thanks everybody

So I'm guessing you don't have budget for the flagships?

From your options I'd pick the XL immediately.

chanchan, that's correct.

Have you used the Google Pixel? what's your take on it?

No I haven't. But from your list it's the one that provides the longest support (3 years) so you got support until 2019 when Android Q comes out, or at least get Android P if it doesn't get Q. The G6 and HTC10 might not see the light of Android P at all since they are supported only for 2 years.

golfdriver, what's your favorite feature about the pixel?

chanchan, I see, thanks for your input. Any devices you suggest I look into that have a good camera and good sound quality?

I too would recommend the Pixel.

I would have said the G6, but if your wife is really interested in taking pictures, then it will be hard to beat the quality of the Pixel line - be it the original or the Pixel 2 line.

Consistent updates. Unlike most other OEMs where the update path is anyone's guess, with the Pixel, as long as it's supported, you should be getting it monthly, around the 5th.

At that price point, and assuming you're in the US, the Pixel really is your best bet. Anything else you get will be inferior to the Pixel in one way or another. The V20 will have better sound output through wired connection and a good camera, but it won't have the software updates.

I made a mistake on the G6 though. I was thinking that like the HTC 10, it was a 2016 phone. I remember it was an early 2017, so it MIGHT see Android P and end support the same time the Pixel will. But then again, LG software support hasn't really been that good. But if you don't care much about that you can get that one.

You can also look for deals on the S8 or S7. The S8 being one year newer than the Pixel will have the same support until next year for OS updates, and possibly reach 3 years of security software. At the very least support will end at the same time as the Pixel.

The Pixel 3 is also coming out sometime August, so if your wife can hold out for that, I expect the Pixel 2 price to drop. The arrival of the Note 9 next month also bodes a price drop for the S8 an Note 8.

Caveat with going Samsung in the US though is that they only offer like quarterly security updates there for some reason. The rest of the world get their security updates like 2-3 weeks after the Pixels do monthly.

I'm not in the US though, so there are a ton of devices I might consider at that price point that isn't available to you but is to me for consideration. Stuff from Vivo, Oppo, Samsung midrangers running Exynos (Samsung isn't allowed to sell Exynos in the US directly), etc.

I love my HTC10. music with headphones is amazing. it's a brand device, but does is solid all around phone. it doesn't Excel at photos like other devices and is 2 years old. I don't care for Oreo on it as it seems to struggle to find location services every now and then. For 200.00, it's a steal.

@chanchan05 is right: the "current" flagships will see a drop in price in the next few months; so if your wife is really wanting a newer phone (that would potentially get OS/security updates longer than 2016 models), then waiting a little while longer to snag an S8 or Pixel 2 could be strategic options.

If taking pictures is important, the Pixel (plain or XL, original or 2) is what everyone is measuring against. (The original takes longer to process the picture, the 2 is almost instantaneous because it's done in hardware.) As for the "no jack", it's not that much of a burden to carry the adapter around, the only problem is listening with headphones for hours and keeping the charger plugged in - that would mean buying a different adapter.

But I can't complain about the pictures of the 2. And I've pushed it, from a 16 second exposure of the night sky (LenX effectively has a B setting) to bright sunlight with dark shadows. The phone itself is good - I haven't found a dead spot yet. (I just want an SD card slot and a removable battery - I might as well with for a 200 year life while I'm at it.)

Thanks everyone for the input. Morty, that is a good idea. I suppose i could wait a few months.

anyone care to give some feedback on the s8? I know it has a beautiful display but I'd have to research more on it.

The only relatively widespread complaint I have found on it that cannot be attributed to possible lemons is the fingerprint placement and the changes the Oreo update brought.

The rest could be attributed to possible lemons or software preferences (unless somebody else has more info).
