wi fi freezing different from dropping

Here's the problem, my wifi xoom just loses connection. The icon goes from blue to a grey (sometimes stays blue) and I no longer can get online, I go to my laptop and it has lost it's connection as well. From there I go to my router and all the lights are happy and blinking like there is no problem. I pull the power on everything wait 30 sec and plug it all back in and all devices are able to get online again. Now if this was just a problem once a week it would be a minor irritation but at this point it is happening multiple times a day.
Has anyone ran into this problem before? Might it be my router (it is about 5+ years old) or might it just be some settings I need to adjust?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
 
I would change the channel your router is on.


If that doesn't help I would change your SSID to a different name. Re-do your connection settings on your devices with the new name and try again.
 
Thanks for the tips, i'm not used to having to work the router has always worked fine but since I bought the xoom this has been a regular occurance.
