Unlimited 4G prepaid plans now get 2.5GB of tethering as do the 2.5GB 4G plans and all prepaid plans have some tethering. I can't speak for the old contract plans or the post paid ones.

Yeah, they all have at least a little bit now. I can't speak to the prepaid plans, the "unlimited nationwide 4g" plan i thought he was referring to is an old plan when they first came out with unlimited no throttle data. Sweet deal for $15 but can't tether at all was the catch. Sounds like they are about to kill all the old plans though :-(

i toggle w/ the same regular SIM card and hotspot only works for the GNex v4.3 and not for the Nex5 v4.4 (trimmed the reg. size SIM w/ a microSIM cutter and use a SIM adapter when using GNex). wondering if the LTE radio (& the newer OS) alerts hotspot use on the Nex5.

That's how I used my old SIM and it works just fine.

My colleague on T-Mobile tethered from his Nexus One/Unbranded Galaxy S2/Galaxy Nexus/Nexus 4 and now Nexus 5 and he is on a very old plan.

Yet his wife on the same type of plan that he has is unable to tether from her Nexus 5, but was able to from her iPhone.

No idea why some have issues and others have no issues as there is no apparent rhyme nor reason for the issues occurring.

I tried tethering my friends iPhone to my Nexus 5 at work today and when I tried to connect it takes me to a tmobile website saying I do not have a hotspot account.... So I put my SIM back in my nexus 4 and I had no troubles sharing my data connection. Can i not share my Wi-Fi do to lte?

I just tried tethering from N5 to my N4 and got that message. I had no issues when I would tether from my N4 to any devices. Interesting.

I've read the tutorial from xda on how to enable unlimited tethering on the nexus 5 without switching to the new simple plans but I'm not that confident in my ability to unlock the bootloader and root especially since I have to return my nexus do to a faulty camera.

I'm having the same issues, except I'm on the $30 prepaid plan. Hotspot worked find on N4, but doesn't work on N5. I saw the XDA thread about root & editing the sqlite db, but I don't feel entirely comfortable with that. What's the thoughts on this being a temporary or permanent issue?

Make sure you're connecting to the mobile hotspot using WPS security. Only WPS security is supported with the Mobile Hotspot.
Turn off the mobile hotspot.
Wait 5 seconds and turn on the mobile hotspot.
Try connecting to the hotspot again. Keep troubleshooting, if you're still experiencing an issue.
If the above steps haven't fixed this issue, then contact tech support.
