Wi-Fi Problems

Hey

I have a stock Thunderbolt since June. I've had no problem with it connecting to my home network, but for some reason today it won't connect. I know it's not my router because my wife who also has a Thunderbolt, is up and running fine.

So far I've..
Restarted my TB
Took the battery out of my TB
Restarted the router
Unplugged the router
Took the network out of my TB and put it back in.

But all the Wi-Fi does is scan, connecting then disconnect.

And now since I can't connect to Wi-Fi, 4g is killing my battery, I'm hoping somebody can help!

Have you tried connecting to other wifi networks, like maybe Starbucks?

On a day when almost nobody else has 4G, you do, while you have no wifi while the rest of us do. Weird :)

In wifi settings, long press on your router name and select forget, then try reconnecting.

Thanks for the tips so far, I did the forget and plugged the password back in...It still goes "scanning, connecting, disconnected" and keeps repeating that process, killing the battery

How sure are you that you got the password right? Did you try re-doing it?

Yeah, I did it 4x...Each time my network name would remain on the wifi list 4x..

Its just so strange bc I didn't change or DL anything today in my phone, and my wife who has the same phone, has no problem

Well, it seems like you've covered most of the bases... you might want to take a look at your Wifi Settings (Wireless and Networks, Wifi Settings, MENU, Advanced) and check the sleep time, and you could try turning on "best performance".

Besides this, I'd try it at another wireless location and if that also fails I'd call CS and get a replacement.

alright, I'll have to wait till tomorrow to check out another wifi location.

This is soo strange and might I add annoying!

Just tried that, nothing!!! If my wife's TB wasn't working I'd know its my router, but its just me :(

Maybe try going into manage apps> all tab> then find the network location clear data and force stop then reboot. Then see if you can get a wifi connection.

That "best performance" setting will also kill the battery, from what I've seen.

Yeah, I'd definitely try to connect to a *different* network and see what happens. At least that way you can rule out the phone vs. something else.

Dang, I thought the clear network location tip would work, but nothing.

Anything else? NExt step is the dreaded factory reset, and if that doesnt work, they will send me another one. So annoying

I'm having a slightly similar problem.
I have about 4 networks I regularly connect to depending on where I am. Most of them automatically connect once I enable Wi-Fi. But for my network at work, it does the whole scanning, obtaining IP address, connecting, disconnect thing until I press on the actual network in the list. Then it asks me for the password to get at the network credentials. This is the password for the stored info on my TBolt, not the network itself. Once I enter that, it gives me the choice of connect, forget or cancel. Thereafter, for the rest of the day, even if it times out after 15 minutes, as per my settings, it will reconnect automatically once I wake up the phone.

My question is twofold or maybe I just have two questions:
1) How do I get it to connect to that network automatically the same way it connects to my other networks? (BTW, all of the others are WPA or WEP, so it's not a pasword issue)

2) I've read that Wi-Fi uses less battery power than the regular 3G/4G radio. To save power, my Wi-Fi is set to turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity. Two days a week, I'm in a location with really poor coverage, so the radio is working really hard to find and hold a signal, which eats the battery. If I leave my Wi-Fi on for they day, will that take enough of a load off of the radio to help prolong my battery life?
Does the phone automaticall default to Wi-Fi when it's active for everything other than voice and sms?

TIA.

Maybe I'm just not reading it right, but I'm sure if know what you mean by:

This is the password for the stored info on my TBolt, not the network itself

Do you have encryption enabled or something like that, or are you just talking about the unlock device password?

Regarding you second question: Yes, using WIFI will definitely save your battery, ESPECIALLY in an area with poor reception. And yes, the phone will default to WIFI for all data services when on, except for voice and SMS.

It pulls up the credential storage locker just for that one network. I used the wrong term in my OP.
