Wide angle camera crashes

Well it finally happened. Got my first failure on my V20. Tried using the wide angle camera and it causes the app to crash. Clearing the app data gets the app to work again by resetting to the main camera, but it crashes again if I try to switch cameras. Rebooting doesn't help either. Not sure when it actually happened either, because it's so rare that I use it.

Yeah I told you about my issues. Maybe the Oreo update will fix that but who knows when and if it will fix it. I had the camera app crash a few times on me making the phone unresponsive and reboot. That's the one place I can't tolerate any major annoyances.

The front facing camera also doesn't work, leading me to think it's a software issue. I may try to factory reset if it becomes an issue, but thankfully I rarely use either of those and going to leave it for now.

Do you have a GCam mod installed? If so I suggest uninstalling it, do a partition clear cache in boot recovery and see if the main camera will work then. Same applies if it's your GCam port is the one causing you grief.

you can enter the recovery mode?? what model is your V20? I can't enter it.

Never heard of that, much less installed it. After doing more searching online, it may actually be a hardware fault.

I have the Verizon version, which I think is the only one (that I've heard of, at least) that allows access to the recovery menu. Even their method changed from how I discovered it, thanks to one of their updates. Currently I just press and hold POWER+VOL DOWN during the boot up process until it shows the recovery screen.

Fyi, I did try clearing the system cache too with no luck.

And now all cameras are effectively dead...

That, plus I suspect my USB port is starting to get questionable, the common image retention issues, and I have a few scratches on my screen. Those other issues were minor and not worth risking a warranty claim, but the camera alone is. I guess I should start getting backed up and ready to set up a claim (extended warranty through Verizon). Haven't made an extended warranty claim before, so that'll be a new experience. My only hope is that they have serviceable V20's available. I have done enough refurbish roulette in the past to know not to get my hopes up. Worse yet, would be if they run out of V20's and downgrade me to the V30.
