Hi,

Phone: Nokia 7.2
Android V.11

I have a couple of older digital cameras. In the past i could connect these cameras via a usb cable and my phone would recognise them and allow me to select which photos I wanted to import.
This facility seems now to have disappeared, Neither camera is 'sensed' by the phone when it is connect via a usb cable.
I was just wondering is anyone knows is this photo import facility has been dropped recently by Nokia/Google/Android?

I have checked my USB Preferences and they are set to "This Device" I have attempted to change this by connect to a windows pc to "Connected Device" but get the Error "Couldn't Switch"
No options are available when a camera is connected.

Any advice as to how to get this very useful facility working again would be appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Nick.

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect the camera to the phone via USB, do you see a USB notification appear in the status bar? If so, swipe down the notification panel and tap that notification -- do you get an option to switch to File Transfer there?

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. Well, what used to happen would be that the phone would go straight to the photo importer and display the photos store on the camera. As for the swipe down notification, no, this doesn't happen and to me memory never did with a camera connected. This does happen when i connect my phone to my windows pc via usb though.

Many Thanks,
Nick.

I'm not sure what photo importer you're referring to -- is this a 3rd party app, or is it an app that was preinstalled on the phone?

It's pretty standard on Android phones that when you connect to some other device via USB, a USB notification should appear. When you tap that notification, you should then see options like Charge Only, File Transfer, and a few others.

Do you have other USB cables you can test with?

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. No, it wasn't a third party app, it really was, or did just appear to be, part of the O/S. I didn't install a third party app as, at the time, I just assumed the camera would be recognised ( and it was )!
I have two different cameras with the appropriate cables, which used to work and now do not. I am starting to think this is an AMD/Nokia specific problem. It's a pity, though as it was very convenient.

Many thanks for your help and support,
Nick.

It's possible, as you were wondering, that this was compatible with a previous Android version, but as Android has advanced, it has become incompatible.
