I find them helpful but ultimately they take up lots of space. How many ppl use lots of widgets?
How many home screens are taken up them?

I'm trying to find some useful widgets. Bought Beautiful Widgets, but that's about all I can find that seem worthwhile.

Basically I have several apps that have accompanying widgets that I don't use. They are useful but I hate wasting space. Such as my task app, Gtasks. The widgets lists tasks in the order I wish (by date) but is 2x2 widget. Now my problem is I rarely think to check what tasks I have to accomplish, so I rarely open the app. But the widget listing through tasks on the home screen makes it so I don't have to think about it. But this takes up 3 spaces that other icons could be using.

I haven't really found anything important or useful enough to take up that much space and burn battery.

I really don't understand why people need an extra clock on their home screen or to know every weather detail 24 hours a day. I suspect it's just widgets for widgets sake rather than actual need.

I use some widgets, but they are mostly for quick access to things I use every day. I have a battery widget that quickly shows me how much battery I have left (notification bar battery indicator is way off); a widget to quickly turn off 3G, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, etc.; a music widget; a scrolling calendar agenda widget; a weather widget (for fast forecasts); and a couple of direct dial widgets. I have no other icons on my home screens. I use Launcher Pro, so most of my frequently used progams are in my scrolling dock. I rarely open the app drawer and my home screens are actually very clean and uncluttered.

I like having the big clock since it's easier to read from wherever I set my phone down. I can't read that tiny clock in the corner without picking up my phone. The weather app is just nice.

I use a lot of widgets. It's one of my favorite Android features. I wish I could use them for the lock screen. :)
  • Evernote
  • Google Finance
  • AccuWeather (three times for my 3 most visited cities)
  • Google Voice (twice: controls and voice mail)
  • Battery
  • 3/Cubed
  • YouTube
  • last.fm
  • Pandora

widgets are extremely handy. just hate the use of so much space. i am a minimalist really

You CAN use widgets on the lock screen. Get the app called "Widget Locker"

i can't understand why there is a youtube widget. is it really that much faster to click on search on the widget rather than open the app and hit search. other than easily being able to use the video camera i don't see a use for it

I love having widgets set up for frequently used apps. It helps me stay organized and I feel I can access the information easier than looking through a list of icons. My favorite widgets are:

Android Agenda widget (calendar)
Astrid (tasks)
Analytic Widget (visitor count for your website)
Pandora
Springpad
Picture Frame (pics of my family)

ya one thing i miss from htc is there calender widgets. but i don't really make many appointments so its a moot point. right now i am grappling with whether or not to use the gtasks widget. i like being able to see the tasks on my main homescreen but then i have 3 apps that have to be displaced. so its come down to a pro con list

Right now the only widget I use is the feeds and updates one. Tho the new YouTube one looks nice

Anyone have a todo list widget?

I do in effect. I use ColorNote, which is like a sticky pad, but when I decided to change things around I didn't want 4 sticky notes on my phone. To solve the problem, I created a text icon that says "To Do List" to match the BattStat font. Then using Desktop Visualizer I made a shortcut on my home screen with that text icon that opens ColorNote. I like ColorNote because I can tap on a task and it will cross through it when I am done. Once a week I refresh my tasks (I have one for home, work, special events and a long term list).

I think we need a widgets thread. What there called, what they do and pictures would be sweeet!
