Yep. that is enabled by default. You can turn it off in settings->more (I think?).

That makes sense. The symbol looks different now. I think it was more clearly an N before.

I think it's a Nougat stock icon. My S7E has the same icon.

It's definitely NFC. Turned on automatically with the update, but you can then it off in connectivity menus.

Speaking of NFC, how is NFC working for everyone? I feel like the NFC touch area is really small for a phone of this size, and it takes a lot of fiddling to get it to connect properly.
