Wierdness afoot?

So it looks like Asus has decided to release a lightly revised version of the prime with a 1920x1200 display and revised back cover design. I saw a google news link to theverge.com's article on it but when I followed the link the article was gone from theverge.com. A little more digging found this... ASUS redesigns the Transformer Prime, adds HD panel and fixes WiFi.

If you search google for tf700t you'll still find the google new links for the original verge article but if you follow the link it 404s out. Really weird that theverge.com pulled it. Also interesting that Asus appears to be possibly admitting defeat with the current case back. I sure hope for those that keep their TF201s Asus comes up with a fix, even if that requires replacing backs.

I cancelled my current Transformer Prime order. I understand there will always be something better coming out, but it sounds like this be worth the wait. Thanks for the heads up.

So now it looks like gizmodo is reporting the same thing, though with a slightly different take on it. It Wouldn't Be CES Without Some a-Wee-Bit Better Tablets. O Hai Asus!. They're reporting the TF700T as the high-end alternative to the TF201's main stream positioning. I dunno if I buy that. I can't imagine too many people deciding that $500 is okay but $600 is just too much in exchange for higher resolution, better radio performance, etc.

Well this just sucks. I paid 150.00 over retail (my fault) because I had sold my Acer A500 and was too impatient to wait to get mine. I was really missing not having a tablet. My keyboard is scheduled to be delivered to BB this Wednesday.
I had posted last week that after buying my wife the GT 8.9 how dull my Prime looked. It was pointed out that Samsung does over saturate the colors. While this may be true, I have a Samsung phone, Blue Ray player and TV so I guess that’s what I am used to seeing.
I have never been able to get the screen resolution difference when I look at the numbers. My question is will that newer resolution be a noticeable difference in how the colors show up. Will it look more like the Galaxy Tab’s?

On a 10 inch tablet 1080p will not make a huge difference and I don't really care about the GPS so I would rather stick with my Prime and put that extra $100 towards the keyboard dock.

Engadget's got some pictures and info about it. Uses the same keyboard dock, at least.

Hate to say it but I cancelled my order based on this. So I guess I am glad there was a supply chain issue. Because I can only afford to do this once.

Just remember, in 5 or 6 months when the newer version comes out there will be an announcement about the next "great" Android tablet from ASUS or someone else for Q3 or Q4. Are the Bionic, Rezound, RAZR, Nexus, etc. "better" than my Thunderbolt? Sure they are, but I enjoyed the heck out of my TBolt for months before those were released and it still meets all my needs and more. Waiting for the next big thing can keep you waiting a looong time in the tech world.

Hmmm. The improved display doesn't irk me much, but the redesigned back does, since it should've been painfully obvious to even a half-baked engineer that wireless reception would be improved if the antennas were positioned behind a plastic strip. That said, I'll probably stick with what I've got, especially if the TF700 wait is going to be as painfully long as the TF201 wait was.

There's no question that this is always the big question. Do I wait and get something better? Or do I buy now and get something today? In this case I think there's a lot to be said for waiting. The current product has some issues with the design and it's impact on RF (that's impacting different people in different ways but I think it's real) and the change in resolution is a pretty big deal. Don't believe me? Pick up an iPhone 3g and then an iPhone 4 and tell me the difference in the display between the two is no big deal. The iPhone 3 is a 163ppi display, the iPhone 4 is a 326ppi display. Current 10.1" 1280 displays are 160ppi and a 1920x1200 10.1" display should be about 320ppi. It matters. Does an iPhone 3g or other 160ppi display suck? No, clearly not. Will you look at ever 300ish ppi display and think wow... I would. I think there's a lot of reason to wait, I also currently have a tablet which makes that statement much easier. To each their own but I wouldn't minimize the changes.

The changes may matter more to some than others, I know that's subjective. My main point was this will be the case with all tech. There's always something better just a few months away. . .

This definitely is a bummer... But honestly, it's rumored for next quarter, meaning April at the EARLIEST. So, I either spend an extra hundred bucks on this and wait a minimum of three more months, or I learn to love my TF201 as though it had a 1920x1200 screen resolution.

Also, it may just be me, but judging from the pictures, doesn't it seem to be thicker than the TF201? Engadget also mentioned that GPS wasn't listed on it's spec sheet...
