Does anyone know what connecting to wifi is supposed to do? I was just trying it and it doesn't seem like anything is working if it's out of range of the phone. I tried getting the weather and that didn't even work. It said it wasn't connected but when I went into setting I saw it was connected to my wifi. Any ideas?

It only connects to WiFi when out of Bluetooth range but I'm sure you knew that much already. All it's suppose to do is connect to the phone the same as it does with bluetooth but over the internet via WiFi instead. It has to be connected to a WiFi network that your phone has previously been on an has saved to work, but doesn't necessarily have to be connected to the same network as the phone at the same time. That much I know. I also noticed that it takes 30 seconds to a minute sometimes to establish a WiFi connection and/or start working with the phone again (that cloud with the line through it going away) after losing Bluetooth.

Well I know that I have gotten notifications from being on WiFi before but I wonder if that's all. Could anyone check to see if anything else will work when just on wifi?

Yeah everything on my watch works on WiFi, even ok Google searches and all

Thanks for checking, looks like I need to reboot and try again.

Does it use the connection info from your phone? How does it get the password for protected networks? What about networks that require authentication?

Well I finally got it to work but it was kinda weird. When I went to the other side of the house it would connect to wifi but not work, but when I went back and did the same thing after turning Bluetooth off on my phone it did. I guess I wasn't totally out of Bluetooth range in my house and it was confusing the watch somehow but it would say it was disconnected however it wouldn't do anything but notifications over wifi.

@Mikey47 it uses the information from your phone to connect to any previous networks that your phone has been connected to. This includes password protected networks. For networks that require website authentication there is a workaround using a watch based browser to sign in but I'm not sure how well that works.
