I've got an unlocked s8 using an O2 sim. I've activated it on my account with them but don't see any options on my phone for it. sim only contract

I have the s8+ (unlocked) and there isn't an option for wifi calling. I have called at&t customer support and the only option is a microcell (which they offered to pay for).
There should just be an app to install for this like there is for visual voicemail.

How did you get them to offer to pay for that?

I just told them my situation:
1. Poor reception in my house on old phone, new phone, and wife's phone.
2. All are unlocked so wifi calling isn't an option. Make sure they know that you didn't unlock it and that it came that way.
3. Also probably doesn't hurt that I've been with them for 5 years and flat out asked if I should just look for a different carrier (which I still may).

Mine is Unlocked in the UK and I've no option for it. I'm on Three pay monthly and as far as I'm aware they only provide it for their own phones they sell. EE I'm sure is the only network that provides it to all

yeah I read on o2's website that you need their firmware Installed, which I don't. bit of a bummer really

You can flash the official O2 firmware yourself using Odin and it won't affect your warranty or anything then you'll get the options. I meant to do the same when I got mine but I forgot and I can't be bothered with the hassle of setting up my phone again from scratch now I've got it all set up the way I want it

Wifi calling requires carrier support, after all you are forming a wifi link to the carrier over the internet. So if you are using a pre paid style account or something outside of the US, check to see if they support wifi calling or if they need an addon package for it.

Does the s8 plus support WiFi calling on an unlocked version UK model any advise as I'm being given the run around

I don't know specifically about that model or about your service provider in the UK. But on my model and on my service provider in North America, you need a specifically modified kernel to do it. So only very specific phones are supported. This is on Android 6.0.1, but not all phones with even that version of Android. Hopefully in the future all you'll need to do is download some kind of an app and it'll work on any model.

My phone is unlocked, and it was previously locked, but the feature was still implemented. So locked or unlocked should be irrelevant, it's just whether your phone is supported or not.
