Wifi connecting such and such

Going to take some time to apologise for the inevitable technological disabilities shown by me. But pretty much I'm going to get a Xperia Play. The one big question I want to know is, if I am sitting at home on my couch and I want to browse facebook, can I choose to use my Wifi instead of using the connection provided by my phone company which would use up my data usage on my plan? I'm sure it's obvious to those who have one, but yeah I don't, so help me out. Also if you can do that, can you switch between whether you use Wifi and the phone companys connection? Is it easy to do? Will it do it automatically without you realising and it cutting into the data plan?

If you have enabled WiFi in the system settings, it will automatically detect, connect and use access points of your choosing. As long as the connection is up, you will not be using the carrier network.

You can also get a widget to turn on and off wifi (so after you set up a network, you won't have to go into the systems menu, but instead have a shortcut on a home screen)
