Often times I need to disconnect/reconnect wifi. I turn on the phone and it shows the wifi symbol active on the notification line and when I pull down the line it shows I'm connected but I can't access the internet. If I press wifi to disconnect then press it again to reconnect it starts working. Android 5.1.1

Does it happen on all networks? If not, it might be your router not handling the IP lease properly (this happened to me on an AT&T Router; they updated the firmware and I didn't have any issues. This was on a Note 10.1 though).

I've only noticed it on my home network. It just started happening with my S5, never had the issue with my S4.

Thanks, I have tried all that but the 2.4/5 Ghz band selection but I can't find that setting.

This would depend on your router and if it supports both bands (5GHz is a newer band and it usually makes routers more expensive if they include it, so not all routers have it and older routers probably don't support it either).

Check if there's a firmware update available for your router

It does support 5 Ghz. I meant the setting on the phone described in the trouble shooting guide to select only 2.4 Ghz. And I do have the latest router firmware.

Thanks.

Oh, OK. My bad. Can't remember if the S5 shipped with the 'smart WiFi' option (maybe it's called something different). Try disabling that to see if it improves.

More on this ... I forgot to mention I had to install a range extender to get wifi out in the living room, the router is in my office on the other side of the house. I have to do the disconnect/reconnect when moving from one location to the other though not always.
