wifi grayed out

I gave up on my tablet when I couldn't fix this a year ago, but it would be so great to have my poor tablet back...

The wifi is greyed out so it won't turn on to search for networks. Does it just need an update? If so, can I download it onto my laptop and transfer it via usb? help please?

Welcome to Android Central! Where is it greyed out? Are you in Settings>Wi-fi​? Are you unable to flip the switch there to "On"?

Reboot doesn't help? And this shouldn't matter, but is Airplane Mode off?

Reboot and factory reset have been useless. And ya, airplane mode is off.

Strange. I wonder if there's a problem with some physical connection with the wifi antenna. I couldn't find anything else on the web about this problem. If you're adventurous, you could consider opening the unit up and checking all of the connections:

Ha! I'm pretty sure I'd only break it more. Besides, it worked once upon a time and nothing ever happened to damage it...

OK I got desperate and actually dismantled it. Where is the wifi antenna though?

nope. But I've disconnected and reconnected *everything* and there's no change. What the hell, Acer?! :'(
