WiFi help with new moto x

No luck here. It has to be a local issue with the MotoX. We have no other issues with any of our other phones including the first gen MotoX. We were waiting for the next firmware release to see if that fixed. What carrier are you guys on with phones. We are Verizon.

I am hesitant to buy this phone for our users anymore with this issue as we prefer them on wifi vs using data plan.

I'm having the same issues with the secure Wifi at home. At work it's ok. But at home I have to connect to the guest network. Hoping Android L doesn't make things worse.

My Outlook used 6gb of data in 3 weeks. I now have a case open on that as well. We have spent multiple calls and hours on this issue too. They think the new Exchange app on the phone is having an issue communicating with the our Server 2003. Soooooo....they have me trying Touchdown. Works outstanding cause I can only receive emails on the WiFi hub I installed at my desk. No email on home WiFi or 4gLTE. I am just about over it with this phone! I am now 10 emails deep with and multiple data logs with Symantec support. It is really starting to get old. I 100% feel the phone is the root of every issue!

It's definitely the phone. My wife and son just got me moto x's, and one connects normally, while the other won't connect at all. It says searching for wifi networks, than you hit next, and it says "wps failed, please try again in a few minutes". Turn the wifi off and back on, and it shows my home wifi as disabled. Touch the routers name, and it says "signal strength good..WPA2 PSK". Touch connect and it says"failed to connect".
If I connect by turning the wifi off then on, touching the connect button after selecting the router, it will connect, but seems to disconnect as soon as the phone goes to sleep.
The other motor x 2014 work's normally.

Just noticed something else. When I do get it to "connect", touch the routers name, it shows the routers name, and gives the ip address, yet there is no wifi indication on the status bar. The status bar still indicates 4G lte.
Considering taking it back.

Well, I did a "data reset ", as opposed to a hard reset. All appears well now. I think that when my son set up his mom's phone, he used some of those migrate tools ie: moto migrate, or the At&t one. Regardless, the Wi-Fi works well- connects fast and stays connected. 😊

Weird, somewhat concerning thing happened when I set my new X yesterday. The phone connected to my WEP secure network/wifi (Linksys E4200) without asking for input of my password. Wifi now shows connected to my locked network.

I did not use Moto Migrate and simply logged in to my google account, which syncs my contacts, calendar etc. I had Motomaker add my google account, so log in was part of my opening setup. AFAIA, that's the only way the new phone could obtain my wifi settings. Is Google really storing network passwords? If so, that's a problem.

Hi Strommer, Did you do a "Factory Data Reset" which wiped out everything on your phone? I am also not able to connect my new Moto X 2014 to my work wifi. My old Moto x 2013 is sitting right next to the new one and connecting to my work wifi just fine. My home wifi also works fine on both devices. (Pure Edition with an AT&T sim)

I have the same issue and contacted Motorola. Motorola engineers are saying that it's an issue with some of the Cisco AP/routers. Either you have to ask your company IT department to update the firmware ( if fix is available ) or you are out of luck. Motorola will not fix this issue.

"After further review by our engineer team, they have determined that
Cisco has multiple series of wireless routers that are currently end of life and not compatible with our newer devices. This is why you are able to connect to other wifi networks. In short terms, Cisco will not be pushing a future update to make our devices compatible."

Meanwhile, all other devices in our office have no problems connecting to Wifi. So it doesn't appear to be entirely Cisco issue.

Yes, please elaborate. We have Cisco routers at my job and I can't connect.

I found this article while researching: Wi-Fi issues on Moto X 2nd Gen | Dallas Gutauckis

Just fixed my Moto X. Did a factory reset but the external one and not the in app one. I think it has something to do with the transport app when i switched phones and transferred over my data with the built in moto app.

This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem

1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.

2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS

3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select

Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.

4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)

5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key

Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.

6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)

7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to Factory Reset and the POWER Key to select this option

8. The device will then perform the reset

9. Reboot and start the normal power up sequence

I had similar issue. Phone worked seamlessly with any WiFi network I attempted for first 3 months. Then 2 days ago it would not connect at home, work, or AT&T store. The AT&T technical support solution was to swap my phone with a refurb. Not excited about paying retail price for a phone and within 4 months swapping it for a refurb. Upon trying to connect to a network it would show network signal strength and display an IP address. but the status field was blank and the phone maintained the 4G connection. I then went to my Network Setting and disabled data access over Mobile phone network. The phone immediately connected to my home WiFi router again. Clearly an AT&T / Moto (Lenovo) code issue/system handshake/priority setting challenge. I will be visiting my AT&T store tomorrow to have them provide me the root cause. Hope this helps others with similar WiFi connectivity issue.
