Did I read somewhere that there is an app that can convert your phone to a wifi hotspot as long as phone is rooted? Can someone point me to that app? I haven't been able to find anything on it?
I have downloaded the correct file and copied it to the root of my sd card. Do I copy that to /data/app/ on the root of the phone? If so I can't figure out the code to copy the file from the sd card. Can someone give me that code?
Never mind.....I think I figured it out. I browsed to it with root explorer and just clicked install. Is this right?
Use a file browser and click and install it. You can also install it through the HTC sync app on your Windows computer. To push it you would -
copy the apk to the tools directory in the SDK
Open up the command window and type:
Code:
cd \location\of\Android\SDK\tools
adb remount
adb push *name-of-file* /data/app/
adb reboot
EDIT - yep doing it through root explorer will work fine.
Do you know much about this app? It is installed and runs fine but I can't seem to get tethering to work. I am getting this error: tethering started with errors! Please check 'show log'. The log is : Deleting routing rule...failed. Everything else shows a status of done. I submitted a ticket on the tethering site but I thought you or someone else here might have dealt with this. The phone is a HTC Hero (Sprint).
OK I am new to the Android game and I am considering the Droid X on the 15th and I was thinking of getting the Mobile Hotspot plan to use it as a hotspot but I also like to look at other options so I have a few questions.
Once someone figures out root for Droid X
1. When using the wifi tethering fix on a rooted device does it allow multiple connection like hotspot or just one connection?
2. Is there any advantages to using tethering over pay hotspot?
3. Also when using wifi tethering do you have to worry about being charged to use it if you are paying for unlimited data package?
Easytether Lite works like a charm too. It's available as a choice on the 'droid apps available on your phone. Just look it up. You'll have to download the program to your PC too but that's no big deal. This is being posted using Easytether lite. No, I am not affiliated with the developer.
