Wifi Issues

About a week ago my Note 4 started having issues connecting to wifi.

Sometimes it would be able to see the available networks but not connect to them. Sometimes it wouldn't even find any available networks. Randomly it would decide that it would connect. As it's mostly my home network I connect to, I followed various troubleshooting guides - got it to forget the network and re-entered the details when it showed it as available, turned the router on and off (although everything else was connecting ok so I doubted it was the router), tried connecting to other networks.

The final stage of the trouble shooting I was following suggested that, if all else failed, I should do a factory reset. I think I'm going to wish I hadn't! To be able to set the phone back up, I need to be able to connect to wifi and, inevitably, it's not finding any networks. I've tried adding the network manually using the SSID and WEP but it says it's not in range and just keeps scanning for networks.

Any thoughts on what I can do next as I now have a phone I can't get into at all!

TIA

Do you reset your home router? Like actually unplug it and plug it back in? You can also try clearing the cache on your phone. If none of that works, I would do a factory reset on the phone.

Hi,

Yes, I did all of that. Including the factory reset. Which is what my problem is now as it's still no picking up wifi and I can't complete the set up process without being connected.

This has recently become a problem for me as well. I actually have 2 networks in my house....really old colonial farmhouse with really thick interior stone walls...anyway, boosters don't work very well because of the thickness of the walls. The signal just doesn't pass through, so I set up 2 routers/networks. I've never had a problem going from one end of the house to the other, my phone would just connect to the strongest network in range. Lately, when I'm near the middle of the house, I'm having basically the same problem as the op. My phone connects, then disconnects, then says there's no network in range, then connects again, etc, etc. Probably wouldn't be a big deal except that my home office is right in the middle of my house, so when I'm in there working I have inconsistent wifi connectivity. I get a decent connection from my Mac (3/4 signal from each router) and my tablet (Galaxy Note 8.0) also picks up about the same signal from both routers. Basically, every wifi enabled device I have gets at least a steady wifi signal...even my old iPhone 3Gs. When I'm in any other area of the house, I have no connection issues with this phone Only in the middle, where the signal might not be quite as strong due to the walls interfering.

I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting with no luck. It's not the end of the world thanks to Air Droid....I can set my phone in another room and still get all of my texts/calls/notifications pushed to my desktop. It's still annoying though. Any other options?

Re: Wifi Issues

Try turning off the "Smart Network Switch" . Also, if you can create a new network at your house, create a 2.4ghz network only and disable to 5ghz band. Sometimes these phones get confused with the two frequencies.

Tried that too, to no avail :-(

I went in to the shop for my mobile network and they didn't know either. As an update to my original post, I spoke to Samsung and my phone was still under warranty (I thought I'd had it longer than a year). They've taken it back for repair or replacement if they can't get it working. Excellent service from them so far. I phoned them on Wednesday and they arranged a courier collection, which came on Thursday. They've advised that I can expect to have it back within 5 days. Thankfully I still had my old Note 3 (which is connecting to wifi with no issues) to put my SIM in to.
