WIFI Kills My Internet

Hey guys.

So I just got my Galaxy S3 two days ago and the wifi was working fine on day 1.

However, today I noticed that whenever I connect to my home wifi network on my phone, the internet drops on my computer almost immediately. The phone says it is connected to my network but continues to scan and gets no signal.

To get my internet connection back I have to disable wifi on my phone and restart my router.
I've played around with the wifi sleep mode and frequency settings but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas on what may be causing this? I really need wifi.

Thanks!

make sure you have the correct number of connections allowed by your internet service provider in check. I know when I had time warner cable, every time my iphone connected to wifi, it would drop all the connections. Turns out, each time it was connected, it was at the max allowed.

Thanks I look into that.

However, I didn't have a problem connecting my OG Evo a few days ago.
And the S3 was connecting to it just fine on the first day so I'm not sure that's the problem.

But I'll check it out just in case. It's really frustrating considering we don't 4g yet. Really need wifi.

I had a similar problem with my wife's itouch. It connected fine for years. Then one day it would connect to the Wi-Fi then kill my internet. Ultimately, I discovered my router had gone bad. Try a different router. I ended up buying a new router to see if this fixed they problem and it did. If getting a new router didn't help, you can always return it. (Sometimes an old router starts acting flaky after a while and cannot handle all the connections.)

I believe I know what is happening and why. I too had a few problems with my router after bringing my phone home. Ok so here's what's most likely happening. If your router is dual band (2.4/5.0ghz) it is probably constantly switching between the 2 or just staying on 5.0 making your router broadcast both signals @ once. I have found that with most routers they just can't deal with numerous things connected on different frequencies and causes them to crash.

So for a solution try and set the phone to 2.4 only or if your whole set up is @ 5.0 then set it @ that. Basically make it so you only use one frequency and not 2 at a time

This is what I think it is. The router is having issues.

Thanks guys.

I set the phone to 2.4ghz as it is the only option that recognizes my network but it doesn't fix the problem.

I will try completely resetting my router today and if that doesn't work I'll have to replace it.

Thanks again.

Just to follow up:

Resetting my router didn't work so I bought and set up a new one.
You guys were right. The phone works perfectly on my network now.
Just needed a new router.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm glad it worked out. Took me almost a week to finally try a new router. But when I did, I was so relieved. Also gave me an opportunity to upgrade to a better router.
