Wifi or Data

I have 1.5GB of data per month allowed on my contract but cannot seem to fathom out whether I am on Wifi or using my Data allowance.
How do you know which system you are using?
Sorry if I seem dumb, but on my Samsung S3 it was easy to know as there was an icon in the notification window telling you but on the Moto it does not seem to be there.
If anybody can help I will be most grateful
Thanks
Merry Christmas to you all

In the notification bar at the top, you will get an indication with the cellular signal strength bar.
When using 3g, I get a small 3g icon with the signal bar at the top. See the screenshot.

You can also see how much data is left and set limits to cellular data.

If you are connected to WiFi as far as I am aware it will default to that and hand it over to mobile data if there is not enough signal strength. However, if you are worried you can simply pull down quick settings, press the triangle below WiFi (signal strength indicator) and turn mobile data off with the toggle at the top.

Sorry my original post didn't upload the first screenshot. This is the first screen you will see.

So Basically if I leave my WiFi on it will stay on even if I have Data Roaming on too, the settings will default to WiFi. Is that correct?

I am just worried that if I leave both turned on Data Roaming will be the default selection and not my WiFi.

The way I understood the owners manual was that I had to physically turn off WiFi then turn on Data Roaming to use my data and then the reverse to use only WiFi, but am really confused.

In my experience WiFi is always used over data in all cases where both are available. There might be a way to change the default but I don't know of any.

Wi-Fi will turn network data off, personally I always turn data off manually better safe than sorry you have to swipe down to switch Wi-Fi on so it's no hassle switching data off
