wifi problem

Hi,
so I have noticed that the wifi bar at the battery section in the settings is always blue although the wifi has been turned of for the whole day. It never has any black. I would like to know if this is usual since my battery doesn't last very long and I'm thinking this could be at least one of the reasons.

And if anyone has some idea what I could do to get my battery to last longer that would be more than great. One thing is that the debice heats often to near or above 40 ?C.
