My Galaxy S5 keeps on disconnecting from my wifi and then connects to it again, even though I am in a close proximity from the router. Any one had a problem with this and how did they fix this?

Is your 'Smart Network Switch' option on? If so, it might be that your connection experiences small drops and the phone switches back to mobile data for reliability. If you disable that, your WiFi will always stay connected, but if it loses connectivity, well, you won't fall back on mobile data automatically.

Julio, I just started having the exact same problem with my S5 (Sprint) as of a couple of hours ago. I did the upgrade to 5.0 a few minutes ago, and I thought that might fix it, but it's still doing it. I tried rebooting my router, but that didn't fixing it either. I hope somebody can come up with a fix, because one's phone is useless w/o Wi-Fi if you're on with Sprint!
UPDATE: I finally found "Smart Network Switch" as SpookDroid mentioned, and it worked. Go to Wi-Fi > Menu (those three little dots in the upper right hand corner) > Advanced > Smart Network Switch and uncheck it. Now my Wi-Fi stays on, but not sure if I'll need to recheck it when I leave the house and my trusty Wi-Fi connection, in order to reconnect to the Mobile Network (which totally reeks on Sprint).

I am also experiencing this issue - Hot, wi-fi strong signal but, not staying connected (happens at multiple locations), Battery Drain. I know there was a Lookout upgrade within the past couple days that was suppposed to aleviate overheating problems - maybe they screwed up the update?

I'm on AT&T and got a software upgrade a few days ago. My phone gets really hot now, and keeps switching back & forth on wi-fi when I'm at home. Signal is strong. I rarely get below 30% by the end of the day, but yesterday I noticed I was at 15% in the early afternoon. Luckily I had a spare in my purse. This is very annoying.. Don't even know how to complain to AT&T.

Got the At&t software upgrade yesterday and it (wifi) hasn't stopped disconnecting and reconnecting from my wireless router 6 feet away from it... At&t needs to release a fix...

I got my S5 Galaxy in Aug and about 3 days ago it was doing that same thing. I turned off the smart network switch and it seems to be working. My next question... When I look at other networks all of them say (WPS available) except mine. If you hit the 3 dots in the top corner there is an option to WPS push button. I pushed it to see what happens and it said failed. Do I need this WPS on my phone????

Mine started doing this two days ago...wifi connects and immediately disconnects and trys over and over. Phone is hot and battery drains quickly. Something just changed to cause all of us to start experiencing this.

Wonder if some app updated that would cause this for all of us???

Go to settings > WiFi > Advanced and turn off Smart network switch

Hello Amie, welcome to the forums at Android Central.

WPS means: Wi-Fi Protected Setup. It is a network security standard.
It attempts to allow users to easily secure a wireless home network.

I just started experiencing this issue yesterday. I had to do a hard reset because of the text to speech was turned on and locked up my phone somehow. Not really sure what happened, but my phone was in my pocket and when I took it out it was locked up saying google text to speech. I couldn't turn it off or restart. I could only take the battery out and it would bring me back to the same screen. Finally, did a hard reset twice to correct the issue. Now this. I upgrade to Lollipop Thursday

This started happening to my S5 last week. When I press the button, the screen lights up and the WiFi symbol is there in the top line so it appears that the phone is connected to the router. But, as soon as I swipe to open the home page, the WiFi disconnects. If I go into settings > WiFi, and select connect, it reconnects and stays connected. Similarly, if I select Flight Mode on and then off again, it reconnects. I have just had fibreoptic broadband installed and I now have two wireless routers in the house. I have set the routers to use different channels and I have slowed the WiFi down to 18Mb/s. Whichever router I connect to, the problem continues. I have tried switching each router off in turn so that the phone can only see one at a time. That has no effect. I have set the Smart network switch to off. I have tried setting the phone to static IP rather than DHCP. The problem continues.
Any suggestion will be very welcome. And how can I escalate this to Samsung, if there's no forum solution?
My phone is the S5 Duo SM-G900FD with dual sim and appears to be a grey import from the United Arab Emirates. It's running Android 4.4.2, kernel version 3.4.0-1901801, build number KOT49H.G900FDXXU1ANJ2.

Upgraded, downgrades, upgraded, and now downgraded again because I can't take the appalling lag. Switched of the smart network switch feature and it totally cured the connection problems, on 4.0 and 4.4.2...

Hope that helps
