WiFi question

If I use free WiFi in places like hotels on my phone is it safe or is it just laptops that can be hacked?
If I log on via WiFi in hotel any steps I can take or is it OK? Do I just need anti virus on on phone?

Welcome to Android Central! If you use an unsecured public Wi-Fi network, you should always assume that someone might be able to snoop on what you're doing. So avoid logging into your bank or stockbroker account, or any other sensitive website.
