Wifi shuts off on update

I've rifled around the internet (including most of the major android forums) and I haven't found a solution to this issue. That said, if I've missed the magic thread just point me in the right direction...

Anyway, I'm the proud new owner of an Opti S, but I'm having wifi issues. From what I understand one should be able to update the firmware (and theoretically the PRL/profile, but I haven't confirmed that) over wifi. My particular problem is that the wifi shuts off when any of the update options are selected from the menu.

In an effort to save some on the monthly bill I have data disabled. (Ting ftw) So obviously with data disabled and the wifi failing the updates simply timeout and do nothing.

Has anyone else seen this issue or have an idea on how to fix it? I've tried updating the firmware (even so far as testing custom roms). I've rolled back to stock unrooted and I'm stumped. Thanks!

Make sure u change wifi setting is set to to not sleep when screen turns off go to wireless settings then press menu then press advanced then check mark never. Hit thanks if that helped

In my experience when doing a firmware check, profile update, or prl update it will kill the wifi connection. I believe it needs to do that as those three update packages need to be handled OTA by the cellular network. Especially the prl update. I'm not aware of any way that any of those updates can be done over wifi.

If your talking about a phone update like profile or PRL that is normal due to the fact it actually needs the 3G data to turned on. That too will turn off during a update and then back on.
Now if your talking about market updates for apps then no wifi should not turn off.

Yes, I've tried forcing the wifi on, it still shuts off. Though to be honest, I was afraid that was normal behavior, I just wanted to be sure!
