In order to use the stock tether, you have to pay extra to Verizon for it to be activated. Try Foxfi instead, available on Google Play.

I tried using foxfi on my phone and it always says failed to connect no Internet connection detected but 4G is always lit up

Did you try rebooting after installing Foxfi? I have seen many posts that say this is necessary for it to run correctly, although I never had to.

I can confirm foxfi doesn't work. Always gets a wifi method failed try using blue tooth error. It always tries to turn my wifi on when I try to use the hot spot, I don't remember it doing that before ics. Why would it have to have wifi on for the hot spot to work, if I had wifi I wouldn't be using it in the first place

FoxFi works for me on ics as well. I am stock and rooted. I don't use Bluetooth though, i use wireless.

I'm not sure why it won't work for me. Worked fine before

EDIT: Just reinstalled it and now it works. I'll try it again when I am at home and in range of my wifi, that's when it didn't work yesterday

If your rooted why not use the Sq-lite editor hack? More reliable than foxfi for sure. Not sure which number in the settings file, 79 maybe? In any case it works great and no more worries.
For using the phones hotspot, maybe that's not what your looking to do?

That is what I am trying to do, with this method would I use the built in hotspot? And verizon can't see it?

Correct. Do a you tube search for the how to video. The difference being on ICS is the entitlement slot hasbeenmoved to 79 rather than 150. I've been using it for six months this way.

I was always afraid that Verizon would still charge me by changing the number using SQLite.

FoxFi works for me, though I had to uninstall it and reinstall it, and then I renamed the connection (as suggested by the app developer). Now I can run my laptop and iPad through my phone.

I didn't know about this app until now. Installed it and it's working fine on my iPad. I'm on stock ICS unrooted and it worked right away.

I'm using an app called pdanet right now and it works well. Haven't had it that long but no problems so far. Offers bluetooth, tethering and hotspot
