Wifi Tether Connection Problems With Thunderbolt

Greetings,

I have a rooted Htc Thunderbolt running Cyanogen.

I also have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I cannot connect to the wireless tether program or Barnacle wifi.

It sees the SSID from wireless tether but is stuck "obtaining IP address."

In Barnacle it doesn't even see the network created.

My Ipad connects to the wifi tether feature of either program without significant trouble.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Here is a post in the above thread that breaks it down if you'll be using Root Explorer (or Es Explorer) to do the mod: xda-developers - View Single Post - Guide Wifi Ad Hoc Working Samsung 10.1v

Again, make sure to backup via a Nandroid or rename the original file wpa_supplicant_bak then copy the downloaded replacement into the /system/bin. This will allow you to delete the new wpa_supplicant file in the future and remove the "_bak" portion on the original and have it restored. Or, you can just restore the backup you made before doing the mod.

It should work if you use WPA2 as the encryption method... Doesn't seem to work with just WPA, same symptoms as you describe. I switched and it works fine...

Can you describe how to do this.. I don't see any such settings in barnacle or wifi tether. Thanks

In the wifi hot spot settings use WPA2 (AES) found in the security section. My Thunderbolt works fine with this setting. I can't use it using simple WPA security, won't aquire an ip address...

Update to this thread for anyone have the same problem.

The suggestions in this thread did not help me unfortunately. I didn't even understand some of them.

Fortunately if you have a rooted phone with cyanogen, portable wifi hotspot is included. It is buried in the wifi settings, and the galaxy tab has no trouble connecting via this option.

Barnacle and Wifi tether were both terrible and couldn't establish a connection with my tab. They are not even consistent options for connecting other devices, frequently crashing.

The built in wifi hotspot on cyanogen is fantastic in my opinion and just plain works. No need to root your tab at all if your phone is rooted with cyanogen.

Lumina ur awesome thanks dude. Been looking for an answer all day. Same problem thunderbolt and galaxy tab 2. My tab was rooted btw. Again thanks

Wow... I've been trying for 2 weeks to get my wifi tether working on my Asus TF300T and this fixed my problem. LuminalDust - You are the man!
