WiFi6 broke after Android 10 update on S10+

Curious if anyone else has ran into this yet. I see some Pixel threads throughout that WiFi broke in beta testing, but not sure if similar.

Anyways, I have a TPLink AX3000 that supports WiFi6. Since updating to Android 10 on my S10+, my device will stay connected for a bit and then not connect. Go into WiFi and see that it can't obtain an IP address.

First I thought it was location of the router. Nope...didn't make a difference.

Thought it had something to do with lease time as the router is only set for 120min, so I tried increasing the lease time and also assigning an IP to the mac address of the phone. No difference.

I then tried going into WiFi on the phone and turn off random mac address. Thought that fixed it but it didn't.

Rebooting my router works for about an hour or so and then I can't connect again.

Eventually, I turned off AX on my router and bam...phone connects every time, no problem.

Kind of disappointing as it was working so well before the upgrade. But so far it's been the only issue with the 10 upgrade.

My AX WI-FI 6 is good. Sometimes I turn on Airplane mode and turn wifi back on.

Mine is Netgear Nighthawk.

I have netgear Nighthawk wifi 6 router and same same rock solid connection after update. Have tmobile s10 plus

when you reboot, are you pulling the power cable or using the power button. best to pull the power cable. also try doing a power cycle on both the modem and router. set the modem first, the plug in the router.

Any time you get that far, suspect TPLink. The only time I ever had good luck with them (and I've been in the business since long before WiFi) was ... the next time I have something of theirs that works without a problem. Netgear seems to be about the best these days, followed by ASUS ROG.

TPlink is often mentioned as not providing current firmware along with security vulnerability.

One reason I bought new router and modem along with S10+ and the iPhone 11 was Wi-Fi 6.

Also looking to upgrade to ax/WiFi6.

Gayle, are you saying that you don't recommend the NightHawk? Which NIghtHawk, btw? There's a bunch of them.

I'm having the same problem with my tp-link AX3000 and Galaxy S10 just the past few days, says couldn't obtain IP address. I made it a static IP and now it says connected without internet but it's still not connected to the LAN. I tried the same things you did including turning off AX but no luck. All other clients connect to the AX3000 no problem although no others are wifi6. The Galaxy S10 connects to other wifi networks although they're not wifi6. Any ideas, aside from trying the Netgear AX4? I don't know if it's the phone or the router that's the problem.

when you say turn off, do you mean by the power button? if so, that is not what you needed to do. You must unplug it for a 20 count then plug it back in. If that does not work unplug both the modem and router. plug the router in and wait for it to reset then the router.

I recommend NETGEAR Nighthawk AX4 4-Stream WiFi 6 Router (RAX40) - AX3000 Wireless Speed (up to 3Gbps) | Coverage for Small-to-Medium Homes | 4 x 1G Ethernet and 1 x 3.0 USB ports

I 100% agree as long as you don't have tons of people in the house all on at same time the AX4 is a great router and affordable. They were running a $99 special for black friday. If you have a lot of people on at same time try the AX6 model. After using Linksys for years, have switched to Netgear and will never go back.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem.

S10 android 9 worked perfect with ax3000 wifi6. I upgraded to Android 10 and cant connect to ax3000 wifi6. I reset everything without any luck. The s10 android 10 connects to nonwifi6 router without any issues.

Besides bumping down to AC, any other thoughts?

Are you using WPA+WPA2 PSK ? - you probably want to

Connections - Wi-Fi - click on 3 dots for Advanced and turn off all the setting

Also try with wifi back on while you have Airplane mode on.
