Wild fluctuations in battery charged percentages

The battery indicator on my Tab 3 has been acting very strangely. I will have it fully charged up to 100% and use it for 20 minutes or so. It shows the battery % decrease a small reasonable amount. I'll then plug it in and it will show the battery percentage suddenly drop to some seemingly random number...say 40%?!? It then might charge but get no higher than 45%. Weird. Then I'll unplug it. Reset it by holding down power for 30 secs(don't know if that's really doing anything). I then plug it back into the charger. It then may suddenly show that it's fully charged or..more likely..it may show that its 2% charged and almost dead(depending on it's mood?).

In a nutshell...the battery % charged indicator is doing weird things and seems not to be correct.

PS: I have 2 different chargers and have the same problem with both, so I don't think it is related to the specific charger.

Any thoughts? Forum and Google searches have proven fruitless on this one.

Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! Either the battery is failing, or the battery sensor is not being accurate. How long does the battery actually last? Try letting it run down and allow it to shut off by itself. If it shuts off after only a short period of time, it's probably a bad battery. You could try replacing the battery yourself, but since the Tab's batteries aren't ordinarily removable by the user, you might want to bring it to a repair shop (or call Samsung).

Try clearing the system cache partition, on the off chance it might help. You won't erase any personal data. Follow the steps here for the Tab 2: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ing-into-recovery-mode-galaxy-s2-s3-tab2.html
