Android Central Question

I blocked a number and then deleted it. Will it stay blocked?

If the number was associated with a contact in your contacts list, and you deleted the contact, there is a 50/50 chance that the number was also removed from the blocked list, depending on the mood of the programmer at the time of the coding.

This is easy to verify. Open the dialer settings and check the blocked list for the number belonging to the deleted contact.

If you delete the number from the blocked list, the number will stay deleted from the blocked list.
Removing the number from the blocked list has no effect on any entry in your Contacts list.

The original question was if a blocked number will stay blocked after it has been deleted... Not would it stayed deleted after it has been deleted.
The original thread was a question about deleting a blocked number, because the concern was that they would delete the blocked number and it would unblock them upon deletion.
That's the question that was originally wanting to be answered?

Welcome to Android Central! Did you notice that ManiacJoe was responding to Helen Wareham in your quoted text, and not to the OP (which ManiacJoe did answer, but in an appropriate but slightly different way)? Helen Wareham was in fact asking if a blocked number that she deleted would stay deleted.

Will someone please answer the question?
Will a blocked number stay blocked even if you delete it from your blocked list?
Whether that number is in your contacts or not is irrelevant to me.
Hypothetically let's say the number is not in your contact list yet you blocked it.
If you delete that block number will that number in fact stay blocked?

If you have an app stored somewhere (eg in the cloud) and uninstall it on your device ... will it work ? No, because you deleted it,that's the same with blocked contact...

When you block a phone number, that number gets added to a block listing file stored within your phone. Incoming phone calls (and outgoing not that it matters is this situation) get added a phone call listing file. So yes, when you block a phone number, whether you leave or delete that call entry it's affecting two different and separate data points.
Your block list is referred to when you're receiving a phone call so incoming calls from phone numbers in it should be 'blocked' from being allowed to trigger your Phone app or get added to the phone call listing. Or in other words, when you delete a phone number from your phone call list, that pertains only to the general in/out listing of calls, when you delete a blocked number from the block list that only deletes that phone number from the blocked call list -- two different databases that are interrelated but managed separately. At that point you'd be able to receive phones calls again from that previously blocked phone number.

So you have a number you blocked in your blocked list, but you want to delete it from your blocked list... but still want it to stay blocked? Your blocked number list is only visible if you purposely pull it up, and blocked numbers don't show up in your call list. So you will theoretically never see the number again if that's the issue. If you remove it from the blocked list it most likely won't be blocked anymore... if you try that a message should pop up telling you what the options are.

I have two phones. I did an experiment, and blocked one number, then deleted it from the contacts. The blocked/deleted number was still blocked, despite being deleted from the other phone's contacts list.

So yes, go ahead and delete that number. It will still be blocked. You can always unblock it from the blocked numbers list if you want.
