Will blocking Google Play services notifications mess up my phone?

I have a rooted android, and I wanted the stupid update notification to go away, so I blocked Google Play services from showing notifications. What effects, if any, will this have on my phone?

I'm on a Nexus 6, if that's important.

Welcome to the forums. Since Play Services has a role in anything that's related to Google, it might have an effect on other notifications you get, like Gmail, etc. What update notifications do you not want to see?
