I have a Samsung S24 Ultra phone. I picked up an Amazfit Bip 6 watch for the rectangular form since my main priority is reading messages (business use mainly) and I don't need much else.
However, two or three apps on my phone that produce notifications have been resulting in annoyingly recurrning on the watch as much as a few times per minute and there seems to be no way to stop it unless I disable the app's ability to send notifications entirely, which I certainly dont' want to do.
1) Google Messages is my texting app. I use it on the phone and I use the Windows app on my computer, which syncs with the phone app very smoothly. However, whenever I access either the phone or Windows app I get a notification on the Amazfit watch: "Device pairing - your messages are available on the device you've paired." I mean, every time I open or click on the Google Messages tab in the Chrome browser, I get another vibration/notification on the watch. It's fine to see this once in a while but it can notify me literally multiple times per minute as I navigate and do my work! One instance of this notification appears in the notifications area on the phone, but they keep coming and coming on the watch. I reached out to Amazfit support and they were very responsive but told me there's nothing that can be done about it other than totally disable notifications from the Google Messages app, which would be unacceptable since the number one reason I even bought a watch was to know right away when I get a text message and read it without reaching for the phone.
2) I have an app on the phone called Flat Equalizer (I love it). I also have Spotify. When I play songs with Spotify, even if the Flat Equalizer app isn't open, I get a notification on the watch from the app letting me know I can use the app to equalize the song if I want to. That's fine, but as soon as I go to the next song, I get the notification on the watch again, and so on! I'm sure there's the one notification on the phone when this happens but as with Google Messages there is no list of multiple instances of the notification in the notifications area on the phone, just the one.
I'm sure similar annoyances will also crop up.
I've been researching the smart watch market and it seems there simply is no high-rated watch with a rectangular form factor that's great with messages and with most Android apps. (FitBit, Garmin, Pixel -- nothing seems all that interesting). The Amazfit is actually great except for that one super annoying issue, which has become enough of a deal-breaker to return it.
I'm resigned to forfeiting the huge advantages of a rectangular design for reading messages all day and am ready to live with a round watch in order to get rid of this problem, and that seems to mean I'll be going to a new Galaxy 8 Classic or Ultra 2025.
HOWEVER, I wanted to check here first to ask if anyone has the component setup I've described and can tell me if the same issue exists for them, too, or not. Any Galaxy phone with Google Messages and a newer model Galaxy watch (especially if you also use the Google Messages Windows app -- and if you don't, you should! It's hugely convenient if you work on the computer a lot).
[If anyone wants to comment on how much I'll regret going to a round watch if it's mainly just for reading messages, or if it will be fine and I'll get used to it, please share your thoughts. Or if you have any other suggestions I haven't thought of.]
Thanks so much!
