Will Droid be recieving Android 2.1? (Other buying ?s)

I have dolphin. I use both and their still both choppy while scrolling. It really really dissapoints me that I paid twice as much for my moto droid yet my girlfriends eris browser experience is much greater. I've gone through 2 moto droids and their both the same. Really choppy while scrolling around on web pages. The last update absoluteluly destroyed my browser on my moto droid...pisses me off that they are not releasing any sort of update for it

Many people began to experience this "choppy" problem in the browser with the 2.01 update. Before that it was very smooth. Hopefully this problem will be addressed with the 2.1 update and we can all be happy again :)

1)This is critical as to whether or not I plan on buying it.
2)And also, do you feel the droid is sufficient in the UI compared to the Eris?
3)And do you feel the build quality of the droid will last it 2 years?
4)Have you experienced dust under the screen?
5)Is there still home screen lag/will it be fixed?

Thanks so much!

1. Buy it!
2. The only difference is sense ui ... which you can actually get themes to mimic this or organize things to work fine ... it works even better if you later don't want it that way because you aren't forced into sense.
3. Yes it will last 2 years easily
4. No dust
5. There is not lag on the stock home screen. The lag exists in home screen alternatives .... and not all of them just half. Also, word has it that 2.1 will allow stock 5 screens which basically eliminates the need for an alternative.

droid is enough on verizon for now. i'd rather verizon look to the future and prepare to exclusively carry the N1 killer. the stats for the droid vs the N1 aren't that different. the real money is gonna be on the next google phone

I'm waiting on full flash.....that's what I really want.....didn't they say 1st q 2010?

Well I know that an update is suppose to come on the 22nd. It's possible that 2.1 is part of that update. So far, I'm impressed with how much VZ has helped get us these updates.

They've under-promised and over-delivered as far as these go, so let's see :)

Thats odd, I do not notice any choppiness on either stock or Dolphin. You may be just getting a bad batch of phones - my girlfriend went through 4 Storms with similar and different issues on each, while my buddy has had his storm from day 1. So I hate to say it, but you may be just getting unlucky. Or possibly you may have downloaded something, Market or otherwise, that is interefering with it's function.

off topic, but related to some posts about browsers here... if anyone has a rooted device (or wants to root it), there are a bunch of modified roms and even just app ports (such as the multi-touch browser) that can be found at other droid forums. Everything from 2.1 nexus build to 2.0.1 with all the apps of 2.1 to a milestone build and more :)

I was just watching the live feed of the Nexus-1 announcement. Supposedly 2.1 will be available for all carriers "in a couple of days", whatever that means.

Thursday! I hope.
I'm getting some packages on Thursday, and getting a 2.1 update would make it like a second christmas.

That'd be so awesome.

Just got an email from droidforums.net. Slightly embarrassed at how happy it made me. Here's the relevant paragraph:

The Droid of course is a great phone and has great hardware and some features that the Nexus One does not... and that's when we were excited to hear from the Google team that Android 2.1 should be "open sourced" and available for use on handsets that support it (this includes the Droid) within the next couple of days. Expect to see all the goodness of 2.1 on your Droid very soon, including Live Wallpapers and the recently announced Google Earth for Android which will be available from the App store very soon.

I had to read my email twice to make sure what I was reading this is very good news.

I'm as hopeful as the next guy but remember, Google said 2.1 would be available to all within a few days. I'm not sure what type of packing is involved for loading it to each specific device.

I got the same email!

I question this part:

"The Droid of course is a great phone and has great hardware and some features that the Nexus One does not"

Probably refering to the keyboard and lcd display. I prefer lcd, since I use my DROID a lot outside in the sun.

Agreed. Engadget mentioned that the AMOLED display has overbright-but-still-washed-out orange & yellows. I like my LCD.
