Will Focus for Camcorder be Added?

One thing I really dislike about the video recording is the the lack of focus. The iPhone 4G has it and I'm sure the X can get it as well.
I have too many issues trying to record images that are close and I have to back up more than I'd like just to get a decent picture.

Has there been any mention of this coming in an update? I haven't been able to find anything, but hopefully one of you guys would know.

My camcorder autofocuses pretty good actually...

As far as focusing on things that are really close I have neverused a cell phone that does it. I have to back away to a distance of about 6 inches to get focus. I just tell myself that this thing isn't a dslr.

Mine does not auto focus on anything up close. Even at 6 inches away, it does not look as good as it potentially can with an auto focus feature.
I've been testing it out with the X and 4G. 4G has very good focus up close and my X is just blurry
Media and video capabilities are among the main reasons I chose the X and I have no plans on switching any time soon. Hopefully this simple feature will be added.

I have no problems with camera or video focusing. I would like to be able to zoom in with video though.

I guess I should have been more clear. What I'm hoping for is an option to auto focus like we have on the camera. Despite how "good" it might look now, it will be better once you are able to focus on objects up close.

I still think you are wanting the phone to do more than it is capable of as a phone. Mine auto focuses on objects at a distance of 6 inches or more. Anything closer it cant. I dont see that as an issue as its a phone not a sony handheld digital camcorder hehe

But to blindly answer your question I do not think they will add this in the any software updates as that is more likely a hardware feature.

If by what you mean is to auto focus using a soft press of the camera button then no I also do not thing that will be added as it already auto focuses without the need to press a button.

Focusing closer than 6 inches is more an issue of the capabilities of the lens than the software. My guess is that it can't do it. Other phones might be built to do it, but it seems like the X is not. No matter what phone you have, there will always be things that it does and others don't, and vice versa. If this is a critical issue for you, you could always change phones.

Maybe I'm using the wrong term "auto focus"...? I want to spare myself from sounding foolish here...haha.

I didn't think about that... Might be very true.
I have no intentions of switching over from the X right now. I'm too in love with this beast.

To answer you both: the main reason I need to focus up close is because I'm stitching together some video clips of our pets for a family member. They are running around and coming up to the phone and gets completely out of focus and misses out on the cute stuff they do
Had to borrow the 4G (thats why I was comparing) and all I had to do was touch where I wanted to focus and it focuses extra nicely no matter how close.

Other than the crazy pets, I just thought an auto focus for the camcorder would be a big plus. I know its only a phone, but it wouldn't hurt to have.

Oh that sounds like fun. I know what you mean now. Yeah the camera doesnt have that It would be nice to have. You might be able to look for a 3rd party application that has that although I do not thing you will find one...couldent hurt to look.
