Will Google S4 include IR Function?

Just curious if anyone has any idea if the Google edition S4 will include the IR functionality? I figure perhaps the Samsung app will be gone, but wouldn't there be 'an app for that?' On Google Play? Would hate to lose access to a certain piece of hardware by ditching a carrier S4. Kind of excited about losing the Samsung and TMobile bloat. I have no interest in boot loading/ROMs/etc. - I think they made this phone for me...

Everyone is guessing hardware and sensors will all be the same. If that is the case, we'll just need to find another app to utilize but shouldn't be an issue about it being non-functional.

Incorrect, Android doesn't have an API for IR. It might come in a new Android version, but right now every phone with it uses a different api

exactly this. I would think 4.3 would probably add this since they are releasing these google edition phones with IR capabilities. As it stands right now, even with an app, it will not work on 4.2.2

I actually saw a review where it worked on the s4 but not the one. I wasn't sure what the app was called but if I find out I'll update.

So true! My kids hide the remotes to keep me from controlling it and it took several weeks before they realized dad had the control of the S4!
